gutted the stock reflector, painted black, rigged a pair of Infiniti FX35 HID projectors with 4300k bulbs and 55watt ballasts.

Although, I'm not entirely sure the ballasts are 55w. They don't seem as bright as I've seen other 55w set ups. could also be the bulbs, not really sure. lots of modifications and first hand trial and error as this set up hasn't been tried in my style headlight (from what I could tell and found out from some of the top retro-fitters in the country). That's really what took so long was cutting and fitting, cutting and fitting, cutting and fitting.

lots of cutting and fitting eh? how'd you end up "rigging" it so it'll stay in place? krazy glue?

    Of course he is :)

I have tinkered with my fair set of headlights and these required a completely different approach. Re-thinking the problem alltogether is what took so long on this project. That and we only had a few hours spread out over a couple of Sunday's to really devote any sort of time to it. We still need to seal the rear of the housings. We had a couple ideas but ran into clearance issues. In addition, we're still "shroud shopping". If we cannot come up with an off the shelf solution, we'll be vacuum forming one.

Here's what is in Matt's new lights:
    • FX-R Bi-Xenon Projectors (Replica FX35 Projectors) w/ clear lens
    • Custom wiring harness
    • Morimoto (Retrofit Source in-house brand) 4300k D2S bulbs
    • Greddy 55w Mini-Ballasts*

*I just found out that the Greddy ballasts may be fake. I've spoke back and forth with Retrofit-Source about it and they have pulled the product from their shelves. As a result, there are no current slim 55w setups on the market that I would recommend. Matt has assured me that they will be to market with their own 55w solution soon. If there is an issue with these "Greddy's" we will use the Retrofit-Source's house brand.

Will do. I do all of their product photography, and am in touch with Matt (the owner) weekly.

I'd like to see the 35w, my 55w, and another 55w ballast next to each other and see the difference. I'm not sure the "Greddy's" are really 55w.

If you can find out where my old headlights are (I think it may be at Allpro) those were 35W ballasts on that HID kit.

I had them all ghetto rigged up. Freaking relays kept messing up and it was dark one night so I had to 'make' it work by hotwiring them to one single relay. Possible the ballast died in the wreck too. Oh well.

Brandon said he was going to work on them and put them into another car. I told him where to get a plug and play harness to make it easier.

Actually on the subject of Rick's car, I am curious to see what the new one will do in the quarter. I think it will be quite quick. Might get thrown off the track in it's current state though...
