I Hate Georgia

It's impossible to find a fairly priced, fairly low mileage 2006/2007 STI that isn't 200 miles away from Norcross.
And I have to get it from a dealer so I can finance it. It would be nice to be able to just dish out 25k to all of the private dealers out there and claim their STi as my own, but it won't happen.
It would be even more nice if private dealers were able to afford to finance out a car they're selling. Lollll.
    I hate Georgia.

You can buy a car private party and finance it. Shop rates at banks.

    Maybe it's a sign you shouldn't finance a car?

Georgia's Own Credit Union has great rates.

Talk to a credit union about a loan for a private party if you need to finance. CDC Federal Credit Union did very well for me, and I know Associated Credit Union (based in Norcross, anyone can join) has very good rates for used car loans.

  7. Be prepared to wait to find it. It took us almost a year to find my hubby's WRX. About six months for mine.

It's not uncommon either for people to find them out of state and have to go get them.

And be prepared to jump on them. There was someone test driving it when we got there, then they went to test drive an STI so we test drove it and told the guy we wanted it. When the other people came back they said they wanted the WRX. Well, too late. We were already writing it up. They sat around for hours waiting to see if we would back out. They finally gave up when the dealership closed and they had to leave. :eek:hnoes:

One other comment is that the listed price isn't necessairly what they would take. You can get a good idea of fair pricing from edmunds, KBB, or others.

I'm selling my fair priced 04 STi, I'm Dunwoody so it's not even 15 miles :D

See, the thing is, I don't have any credit, which is a huge problem. So I wouldn't be able to take out a loan as big as that.

25k for 60k miles?!??!?!?!?!?!? Or some for even 90k.
But it's okay. As long as I don't have to pay it all upfront, it's fine.

Hahah... Sucks for me, because I have a friend who quit his job a couple months ago at the CDC Credit Union. I'll check out the Associated Credit Union. Thanks.

A year?! HALF A YEAR?!??!!??! The thing is, I need it almost right away. My '01 Sonata, we sold it to a friend for 500$, 300$ more than the insurance company would give us, and now the '05 Sonata that I'm driving, which isn't even ours, is being shipped out to LA soon. So I might be out of a car, kind of. All we have really is the '08 Sienna. And I hate driving it. Buttt. Whatever works, right? Lol...

And Rofl at the guy. Talk about committed. But I would be too.

    Nummberrrssss??!!!

I was in the market for one, but I got pretty pessimistic about being able to find one at a local dealer. '04/'05 anyway, so I gave up.
Then decided to go for the 2006/2007, in WHITE! Fairly more common than the '04/'05s.

Begs the question, why do you "need" an STi? Going from a $500 Hyundai to an STi is quite an upgrade. More power to you if you can afford it, but that seems to be the issue here.

If you need a car quickly, you should consider some other vehicle options as well. Maybe you can help us out and tell us what your budget is. There will still be STi's in the future, and they will probably become more affordable as time goes by.

Good luck though, I know what its like not having reliable transportation of my own.

ding, ding, ding, we have a winnar...what you need is a cheap ass POS off of craigslist. Save your money and buy whatever you want.
A LONG LONG time ago I gave up my $300 a month car note for a free POS that would take 15min to go into Drive, then could not stop until I got where I was going or would have to wait for the tranny to start working again....now some 18yrs later I own 3.5 (yes half a subaru racecar) cars and every car since including these were paid in cash.
    just saying

I don't have an STi, but my Subaru has always been reliable. I have only had minor issues that were easily fixed.

Nonetheless, if I just wanted a reliable DD car, then there are definitely other (better) options out there.

The fact that he is smart with his car purchases may be one significant reason why he is now "baller.";)

Oh yeah, and what's up with this thread title? How does an individual's bad credit make him hate GA? What do they just give away car loans in other states? They sure did with home loans up until recently....

Hahah. It's not a necessity. Of course it's a luxury. It's just that, I don't like how the newer Impreza's are getting to be. Of course, we'll never know how they're going to be exactly later in the years, I'm aiming for such a big upgrade because I know I can pay it off. Now that I'm working, I can have some form of luxury.
I'm just scared that the later generation of performance cars just won't be as great as what we had/have now. I want to get my hands on one before they disappear from the market, or just become flat out rare.

Another choice I've been considering is the new Mazdaspeed3. I hate the sedans, but I love the hatchbacks. And it's only been a consideration 'cause they're only about 24k.
Budget? My mom doesn't like that I want a car that's over 20k, but I have around $2k for a down payment. 1100 from an accident I was in, 500 from the Sonata, and the rest from working.
I can have more than 2k in the next couple of weeks, it's just the Sonata I'm driving is gonna be gone very very soon.

It's not about my credit. Hahah. It's about living in Georgia makes it really hard to find decent cars, like any of the older WRXs. I find plenty of the '08s through '10s, but locally, I can't find any of the '04-07s.
At first, I wanted a 2.5RS, but that's never gonna happen because it's impossible to get your hands on one. Of course it's harder because it's that much older, but the WRX/STis later aren't that old, and they're still hard to find.

That doesn't really sound like too good a starting point to me. And if you blow all your savings on the down payment, what happens when something breaks?

    *Reality Check : Aisle 5*

Young men always want a bad ass muscle car but to tie yourself up financially to a car payment before you have yourself established is asking for regret and trouble.

Back to your topic title, I can see how this is totally the state of GA's fault.

Buy a $5,000 Z28 and have a blast. Just don't kill me or my wife on the highway or in a school zone.

Eh you need to save up and be patient. I drove a 1.8L slow turd DSM that cost $2000 to buy it with 100K on it for 5 years. Then I turbo swapped it (pulled a Rick and bought a wrecked in the rear 2.0T model for $500) and drove it another 2 years. Then I got an Accord when that engine blew due to me being greedy with boost. Another year later I got the WRX which lasted me 4 1/2 years. Now I'm in a M3.

It's all about patience and being smart with finances.

lol, I just sold my STI and now drive a $3500 1996 Civic Hatch with an type-R engine and tranny. So much fun for low invenstment.

IMO, Ditch the STi dreams for now and look for something else.

To throw more fuel to the fire.

It sounds like an STI may not be a wise choice for you just yet. I'm under the impression that you're young being at home with your mom and all.

However, I can relate very much to you wanting an STI as a few years back, right after I graduated from college and got my first real job I almost bought a 06 brand new, but thankfully had a few well grounded friends and family that gave me a reality check.
Seriously, save as much cash as possible when you're young and life is way simpler, and invest if you can. Try to think of the big picture, its a whole lot nicer to have your own house/condo/apt, than a shiny car.
Also it's one hell of a feeling to just drop a check for one of you're dream cars that you spend almost a year hunting down (personally).

One part I agree with is yes, it's really tough to find a subie in this state, but eh, patience tends to pay off, and a car purchase should never be rushed, because at the end of the day they're all money pits.

My dream was also an Sti or an Evo. I had 10k saved up since i was 15. Yes, i saved 10k since I was 15 to age of 18. The money came from working, and insurance money when my POS acura integra got stolen. At age of 18 I was gonna buy either sti, evo, or an m3. All were 20+k USD, and all would put me in month to month payments. So i said fuk it, why buy a car i can't afford, so i bought my wrx for 9k. I'm glad I did. No month-2-month payments, insurance is lower. And all the money I would be giving for sti or an evo to the dealership, or to the bank, goes into my savings, or into my car mods. And I don't have to worry about, what if I dont have enough for next month, or I can't buy mods for my car, because I have to pay the car payment.

Unless you're balling, like techlord guy on here, stay away from stuff you can't afford. I highly suggest, buy what you can afford. And if you have 2 fucking grand to your name, WHY THE FUCK WOULD U WANT a 20k+ car? Don't put your self into payments, especially at this economy.

Techlord isn't balling......he's smart in what he buys and most of the time sells what he doesn't need off and comes out on top. When you add what he sold off my car you'd be very surprised what he got my car for.......I could've walked away with twice as much but I didn't want to tear the car apart or deal with shipping. And I needed money right then and there as I didn't have another car to drive.

Hahah. Don't worry. I'm not a reckless driver. I mean, I can be, but I know the risks involved with it and I don't want to be held accountable for anything stupid that happens.

Well hopefully that doesn't happen any time soon from my purchase. The 2006/2007 is relatively still new, so going through a dealer should help me, if there is still any sort of warranty cover.

Yeah, unfortunately. It's not like I'm not paying for anything. I do have to pay for my insurance and of course for my gas. I have been meaning to move out, but I think I'd rather put with the shit I get from my mom and not pay for rent then have to actually pay for rent that most of my money would go into.

I'm not the same age as most of you guys. I'm 19 as of this past February, so yeah, I'm pretty young.
I would not mind making monthly payments at all, which is why I was even considering putting a down payment that's not exactly huge, but what seems like enough to be somewhat affordable in the monthly payments.

But of course, the majority of you guys, if not all, are older than me, thus you would, of course, have much more knowledge about all of this.

I'm signed under with my mom, but I alone have to pay $1000/6 months due to my accident in January.

Hahah. I'm just saying, if I go through a dealer and they go through the proper methods of making sure it's in all working order, it should be fine. I would expect something to break if I myself abused it somehow.

Just for fun, I went through a Geico insurance quote for a 19 yr old individual, it came up with a 6 month premium of $2552.50, or $429.42 per month. Sure there may be cheaper/different, but this should give you some idea of the cost involved.

Doughboy, we may not be telling you what you want to hear, but we are trying to help you.

Insurance on STi's are retarded. My M3 is $30 cheaper a MONTH AFTER my accident penalty than my WRX was. Makes absolutely no sense to me. Guess more kids can afford WRX's so more wreck them whereas the M3 crowd is usually the older more responsible crowd.
