Well I just made the move to W7 Ultimate and unfortunately my McAffee Enterprise 8.5i is not compatible. I know we have a ton of IT/Sys Admins on here and I was curious what you guys recommend in terms of AV Software?

Microsoft Security Essentials is what we install on the systems we work on at the shop. It is the home version of the app Matt mentioned.

We use Symantec End Point protection at work and I havent seen any problems with it in the 10+ years of using the Symantec/Norton products.

The biggest issue with the Norton products, however, is that they are huge memory hogs. As far as I know, Norton is the biggest memory hogger of all AV/Security programs.

The corporate version is not so bad but the home versions are awful about using a shit tonne of resources.

and I have only used the corporate versions....I have never used any of their home products. I get the corporate version for free through work so I have no reason to try anything else:)

I have been running without anti virus software now for more than 10 years. I still havent caught anything.

    1. Delete strange emails
    2. Dont download werid stuff

If you do those 2 things you wont catch anything.

I have Kapsersky and I am happy with it. Windows Live Essentials does report info to MS automagically. Supposedly anonymous, but I prefer to know what MS knows about me...

Fact. That's exactly what I do. BUT. Sometimes, occasionally, you'll be bombarded with crap. It's happened to me before, after a fresh format, all I got was a bombardment of advertisements and not so nice stuff.
But it happened only once, so gg.

I had a bad experience with Trend and was pretty damn disappointed a couple years back. I loved GT's enterprise av because it never bothered you. Just ran quietly in the background, consumed little ram, and took care of business. I have read about Kaspersky and NOD but haven't made my mind up yet.

+1 for NOD .. runs light on your operating system, it's fast and I've never had a single problem with it (have used NOD for 3 years now)
