A friend of mine gave me a free Infinity sub. I want to wire it in to the Jeep because the system in there sounds decent just has zero bass to it.

So, can anyone here help explain to me what needs to be wired and how? I am a noob when it comes to audio wiring. I know how to run wires and connect power and such, I just don't know what needs to be done to get this to work with my current head unit. Its a JVC so its not stock.

Here is a pic of what the back looks like. It has the amp built in to it fyi.

He told me it needs a bigger gauge run to the battery with a fuse in that line and then the audio cable plugged into the back of my head unit.

Can anyone confirm or help me out?

    Thanks guys!

also need the rem from the radio to the amp and I think thats it but don't take my word on it as I am scurred of wiring.
I know the rem wire because my box slid around and I reconnected everything but the rem and it didn't work. lol

Since the amp is built in, you will not need to run speaker wire. You will want to run some sort of RCA cable from the Sub to the Headunit. The amp will need independent access to the battery as well as its own ground. Find the wiring diagram for your head unit (google search should suffice) and look for the "Remote Wire". Basically, this will signal the amp on your subwoofer box to "turn on" and begin to draw power from your battery. You run a fat wire because well, it is a lot of juice :)

So, in short, go buy yourself about 15-20 feet of 4awg wire for power, 5 feet or so of 4awg or 8awg for ground, and about 15-20 feet of 14-16awg for your remote wire. You'll want a 15amp (I believe that will be sufficient) in-line fuse on the positive wire within two feet of the battery and a spade or ring terminal to connect this wire to the positive terminal of your battery. Don't forget your RCAs :wiggle:

I'm sorry, I just realised I posted nothing helpful to your post.

Most aftermarkets will have a set of RCA pre-amp outs. If its a fancy JVC, it may have a dedicated subwoofer rca out. Use either of those, but if the sub output is mono, buy a splitter to fill both L and R on the Basslink.

When you wire 12v to the battery, but the inline fuse close to the battery. A 14 gauge should be fine, but go 12 if feeling frisky. Give it its own ground if one isn't already closeby.

Wire the REM back to the headunit to the Basslink will know when to turn itself on only when the stereo is on.

It doesn't matter if you plug in the Basslink's front or rear RCA. Leave the phase at 0 deg unless the speaker cone is facing away from you, then flip it to 180.

go to walmart and buy the 8 gauge amp wiring kit they sell.

If you are hooking up your factory radio to this sub, you will either need the high level input connectors that came with that sub or you will need a high level to low level adaptor connected to your factory radio. If you have an aftermarket radio, you can just run RCA cables from the radio to the sub.

Ben can probably do it in less than an hour or you can take an entire day and still probably not have it done right or start a small electrical fire in your car. i would probably just ask ben how much he would charge to install it.

OK, you guys are a big help but I just can't quite follow what you are saying.

Here is what I have so far. let me know if everything sounds good.

I found out how to get the radio out which I did and here is what I found:

On the back of it it has two RCA (I believe thats what they are called) slots that are red and white. So, what I need to wire the HU to the Sub/amp is a cord that has a red and a white on one end and 4 plugs on the other end. Is this correct?

Then I run a 12g w/ fuse from the positive to the sub/amp. Then I run a ground from the sub/amp to a ground on the Jeep.

If that sounds correct to you, what do I do about the "REM" again?

I am confident I can do this, I just need to know what goes where and how.

    How does this look:

I know it looks stupid but its simple.

Just had someone point out on Jeepforum that the unit does not need a REM wire run to it because it has an auto-power on switch which will kick it on as soon as it sees signal.

Also I am confused about what type of wire to run from the HU to the sub/amp. The back of the HU has a red and a white insert. Thats all. The back of the sub/amp has 4 inserts...? What do I do?

    Please advise.

the diagram looks right, except you only need to run a pair of RCAs. You can run 4 if you want to fill all the jacks, but you just need the 2.

the jeep forum guy is not wrong, but if you have the headunit out already, i'd wire it anyway myself and not use the 'auto on' feature.

The auto on works by waiting for noise to come thru the RCA cords.

The remote wire works at the same time the headunit is turned on and off. I just think thats a better mode of operation if you already have everything ripped out and exposed.

Other folks here think you need a much heavier cable than I do. It won't hurt anything if you run something heavy, and if you can get a good deal on some fat cable go for it. The Remote cable, however, DEFINITELY doesn't need to be heavy cable. Regular 14 or 16 is fine for that.

The red and white "inserts" are the RCAs. I'd suggest you take Integroid's advice and have Ben hook you up :)

I totally would, but I am about 350+ miles away from Atlanta ;)

and you need heavier gauge than 12 gauge. Like I sad, go to walmart and get their 8 gauge amp kit. You wont find it cheaper anywhere else for a complete kit with everything you will need. I still think you should take it to Ben or at least have someone that knows what they are doing help you.

Got it. So two of the RCA inserts on the sub/amp can be left unfilled.

Thanks for the help you guys! I'm going to tackle this tomorrow and hope it works out.

also, I would run the remote wire fromt he HU to the sub. The auto on does work but I hvae seen it do funny things sometimes....Like pop or make very weird noises until it is completely off. If you are running cable anyway, might as well do it right. AUto on is really a band aid for lazy people.

give me the second one then!

The second one needs a little work. He said it just stopped working so its an electrical malfunction somewhere inside it or whatnot. The speaker still works good though, just isn't getting signal.

If I am in Atlanta anytime soon I'll bring it along and give it to you.

REM or remote connects to the blue/white wire on the back of your JVC NOT the blue. The rcas just plug into the sub out of your radio. If you have any further ?'s just pm me ill help ya out.
