Can you order these anywhere online or is your only option to physically go to the dealer and pay out the ass for them? I need a replacement for an 06 Forester

While we're on the subject, I could use some hints on Subaru keys as well. Just bought an '06 Legacy 2.5i SE and it came with one key/fob. I know that the Fob is programmable using the code inside on a sticker but on my two Impreza fobs the 8 digit code (which the instructions have you program in by entering each digit as a number of times you press the button) is an alpha-numeric code. Do I treat it as hex and enter A as 10 presses, B as 11, etc?

More important than a new fob for the car though, is a new key. It's an immobilizer key from what I've read and everywhere I see about key programming says it must be done at the dealership. This is fine, but they also say "Do NOT lose the ID plate that comes with the keys". Well I didn't lose it, it was never given to me. :squint: This is controlled by the ECU, isn't it? Will I need a new one, or can the dealership decode/lookup the ID from the VIN? There is a 9 digit Reorder code on the little ID tag that the dealership had on the keys, would this be the code? I doubt it but maybe...

    Thanks in advance.

They should be able to pull the key by your VIN, but I am not sure. Regarding your fob programming -- I have no idea. My fob takes about 2 minutes to program and is not difficult at all. In 2005 they started with the funky stuff :) Have you checked the shop manual regarding the programming process?

You should just be able to go to ACE or anywhere else that says they can do keys like that, and they can pull whatever code from the RFID that's already in there. Worked for me. Just know that if you've set the alarm, unlocking the door with the key won't disarm it. Open the door, sit in the seat, and turn the key from off to acc a couple times to turn it off.
