So I am wanting to put a system in my 06 WRX sedan, I was going to do JL audio but they are expensive and there are better brands out which much less. So with that being said I am thinking of putting a single 10" SoundStream RBW-10 and powering it with a SoundStream RUB2.450. I am looking for tight bass not something you can hear two blocks away, I want quality over loudness. I was also looking at orion but there is not a stero place that carries them around me. Has anyone used soundstream before? I know they get great reviews when you look them up.
try this place if you're looking for a deal http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/ I still swear by the old school round Kicker comps. Great sound.
JL Audio is worth it IMHO. Soundstream was great when they were made in the USA and owned by a US company. Now some asian company bought them out to use the name so you are no longer getting anything close to the same stuff you were 10 years ago. If you are looking for something inexpensive, take a look into some of the elemental designs stuff. http://www.edesignaudio.com/ Great guys and they engineer everything in house but most of the stuff is made in asia.
My question for you is what's your budget? That would help improve everyone's suggestions drastically
Thanks! I'm down in Lawreceville, right off exit 109 from I-85. Keep in mind that I am primarily focused on sound quality. Making big sound is easy, ensuring it sounds good is the trick. I am a dealer for Hertz and Audison as I believe they have the best products out right now. I also handle DLS if needed/wanted as they are also top in the field of sound quality focus. All 3 are European brands, so they are not common in the US. All that being said, I can also give guidance on most other brands out there as far as quality for the dollars. JL builds solid products, but has slid a bit from the original value leader position they started at with their sub offerings. Bang for the buck? This comes in a 10" or 12"; and either would perform great in a properly designed enclosure. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-462 Here they are in the hatch earlier this year: Also, if you really want to get "out there" and have something truly different, it is hard to beat this crazy little driver in terms of "musical". I have a demo box with 4 of these in ~1.5 cu ft and it will impress just about anyone lot looking to wake the next county. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=264-832
So I have decided what I am going with. I am going to use a sundown audio SA10 and will power it with a sundown audio SAX1200D. I know the amp is over kill but I want to make sure I have enough power in case I want to upgrade.
Jacob specs good products, but they aren't the best choice for what you described in your first post. His designs are intended primarily for SPL applications. The Dayton will be cheaper and more musical. Also, that SAX doesn't put down a ton of power until you get into the 1 ohm range; and I would advise against that. His amps are great for subwoofer use and a value at the online pricing available; I just don't recommend ANY application at 1 ohm due to the unnecessary wear and tear on the amplifier.
Basically my budget is $850 which includes everything. I did some research and everyone says that they are great sounding and great quality. What you you do with my budget? I only want one 10" sub and 1 amp plus a box and installation. I need to be able to take the box and amp out for track days.
My buddy has run one of these (actually refurb bought off eBay for ~$130) and it does extremely well. http://www.woofersetc.com/p5321/XT16002--US-Amps-2-Ch-1600-Watt-Power-Amplifier.htm And if you are serious about sound quality but have something against the Dayton I've recommended, the Image Dynamics IDQ line has always stacked up highly. I could also recommend any number of items that I actually sell and warranty (as well as install)- and Hertz carries a full 3 year warranty from authorized dealers..... Just gotta put in at least one plug for my products
Sorry cross post.... $850 for a custom setup easy to take out for track days? Give me a call and I'll hook you up right. 678.425.8669
I did somewhat of a same setup with 6.5 JL Audio subs. Very good in producing the low end bass..musical but was still missing something. So I opted out and went with a couple of 10 inch pioneer flat subs to put under each seat powered by a couple of PPI Art Series old school amps. Might have to listen to those Daytons. Specs look decent on them as compared to JLs.
HOLD ON, WAIT HOLD IT. wtf, 850 for a single 10 and amp? wtf am i missing here, is it made out of silver to be 850?
That's a total for custom box and insallation as well. Feel free to check prices on a JL 10W6 and a good 700w amplifier- factor in the RIGHT box and istallation and tell me what you think is a good price for that combo. You can do it for less- hence my recomendation of the Dayton as a US amps mono block.... But if that is his budget and he wants "better" components- no judgements. Kinda like saying there is no point in getting an STi over a WRX....
Paying for really good components these days cost twice as much as it used to compared to the 90's. Lower quality also, imho.
