I'm planning on doing catless headers on my M3 and then a Topspeed tune :wiggle:. I've been looking around at mods and I don't think I'm gonna do catback exhaust because I want to keep the car quiet. In stock form the car has H configuration. What would the benefit if any of going with an X pipe be? I hear domestic guys talk about X pipe all the time. Stay H or go with X pipe?
I know part of the idea is smoother flow characteristics for obvious reasons. Smoother flow while still benefiting from the exhaust scavenging. Im unaware of other benefits if any exist and/or if it is actually worth it on your car/hp.
Thanks Matt. I think I'm gonna do catless headers and Xpipe with no resonator. Hopefully will net a deeper exhaust. Many M guys whine about rasp......my deaf self can't hear or distinguish exactly what they are whining about.....lol.
???? Headers are $75. Possibly all I'll have in this setup plus tune unless I do x pipe. More research shows the stock H configuration nets more low end tq but that is subjective. I'll likely end up with 20-30 more hp.
I remember spending quite a bit of money on my 300zx and getting very little to show for it. WHP per dollar spent is definitely more favorable on a forced induction car. You really think you will pick up 20-30 whp with just a few exhaust modifications? Also are headers really only 75 for an M3?
Being an inline-6, I don't see how an x or h pipe would do anything for your car unless you have a complete purpose built exhaust. I suggest you get with Dr. Gas as they are the ones who developed the X-pipe for ASSCAR.
Of course when you add a Topspeed custom tune. Doug is averaging about 20 hp gains on every E46 M3 he has tuned. And yup $75 for a set of great condition used headers.
I changed my mind as usual. I'm happy with this car and until it starts giving me problems I'll keep it.
