A friend of mine just poured this into the gas tank of his fairly new 10' stock non-turbo impreza. What does this do? Is it some sort of ethanol? Would it do anything funky to the engine?

He bought it from walmart for a little over $1.

Just got word from him that his engine smells like something's burning. Little bit of smoke and the engine's knocking a little bit. I would say that's not good. I googled it and found a few guys on the DSM forums using this as a form of meth for their kit.

Yep, it used to be a popular solution to running meth injection. IIRC Milo was tuned for heet (which is 90-99% methanol) as it is readily available and he could always use straight meth when.

    Shouldn't impact much of anything

So pouring it straight into the gas tank would hurt without some sort of tune?

it wont hurt anything by adding it to your gas. It is 100% meth or 99.996 pure and why meth users from way back know this stuff. it was .66 ea the first time I hit up my walmart and the last time it was 2.88 ea. Now I buy it by the barrell.

^^ That's good to know. Thanks for reassuring. Wonder why his car is knocking and having burnt smell from the engine. Could it be just burning it off? ECU trying to recalculate?

    Did he overfill his oil?

That might be the case cause we checked and it was about the top hole but it was at an incline....:( Will check it again when he get back on more leveled ground and when the oil has settled.

yes. diesel fuel will freeze at a low enough temp. you can put this stuff in it to keep that from happening. not a concern with gasoline though since it has a very low freezing point.

i have used it before (in tank) and no harm done. I only used 1 per tank, but got told upto 2 are safe for WRX-STI
