Well, Thats a good question. It's a powerful debate between the two. A lot of people swear by the Valentine 1 that is for sure. I think it is an excellent unit as well. I think the technology has been surpassed in the most recent years though. From what I have read the Escort "Redline" is suppose to be the Valentine 1 killer. Long distance radar etc. The Valentine 1 system doesn't not offer any type of laser protection either. The last several times I have been ticketed in the past they have all been laser.
Err, the V1's do have laser protection? At least according to their site. Either way, the V1's and Escort units are probably the best in the industry.
I know it may pick up the laser. But it maybe too late. The Escorts have an add on to shift the signal that will block the laser. I haven't followed Valentine in a while so I am unsure of their developments.

Valentine works well so does the Escort. When we drove the 240, NSX, Evo to Atlanta I was driving the NSX which had the Valentine in it. The owner was riding shotgun and told me to go home fast we can. Drove 320 miles in 2 hrs 54 mins.....you do the math! Valentine saved our butts 3 times........twice was laser. So if the Escort is better then its dang good.
generally the escort rates up their with the valentine. i had to make a long trip over the new years holiday, so i dropped by and bought the escort. price was as good as i've seen. not sure if it save my butt since i didnt try driving super fast, but it did pick up all kinds of sheriffs and state patrols in fla and ga.

Just kidding. Put in some laser shifters or 9500ci while the car is there. I think I just got a Redline a few months back- if there is an integrated laser solution for that go with it. Or trade me in, sell the Redline to staff and light this puppy up with Escort bling. See, bump works.
