For those of you buying a car from a "PRIVATE SELLER" read this if buying a car from a private seller in the near future http://www.ajc.com/news/cobb/rules-to-change-for-782848.html?cxtype=ynews_rss
LOL whenever I bought a new car, i never would put tag applie for, cardboard crap. It's just asking for a cop to pull you over. I would just drive the car home as is, and register it next day.
i never understood the need for a 'tag applied for' cardboard bullshit anyways? EVERY time i buy a car (had 13 vehicles now), i simply go down to the tag office within a couple days with the title, pay to have the title transferred, and pay for a tag, which they give you RIGHT THEN AND THERE. even if you didn't have the title (which numerous times, i haven't) you just show them a bill of sale and voila they give you a tag. and until this law passes, you had 30 days to do it. I was told by a cop just to drive around with NO tag (not a piece of cardboard and NOT your old tag or another tag as that is a violation, concealing identity or something) until you can get to the tag office and just show cops the DATED bill of sale with your insurance if you get pulled over
Really? I had to wait a week or so. After I bought my car, the dealership did all the tag stuff for us no charge, but I had to wait a week.
NOW in violation? How about they've always been in violation. That's never been an approved form of tagging a recently purchased vehicle.
correct. State of GA gives you 30 days to get a car tagged when purchased through a dealership. However, the dealership is required to get this taken care of for you. We're talking about private sale purchases here, not dealer transactions.
i never understood this either. if i were buying a NEW car i would just tell the dealer that i would get my own, take the paperwork down to the tag office and get it then.
and I thought most were bright enough to read the damn title, "PRIVATE SELLER" Bottom line is if you are mexican in Cobb county with no plates on your honduh, expect to be pulled over.
so since I am asian I should be good to go in Cobb County if I drive my honduh with no plates....got it...thanks b reel
Rofl. In the MIDST of all of the reading I forgot we were talking about private dealings. I was replying to BC and put "buying a car" with "dealership".
it was one of many bills proposed, this one passed. It wouldn't surprise me to see a more stringent vehicle inspection process being pushed as it should be in the next year or so. Lets face it, how many cars or trucks do you see on the road daily that should have the crusher finish the job?
LOL! I drove my 240 for 4 months with a brown cardboard "tag applied for". I drive from CrAcworth to Norcross for work in it. Had close to 10 cops pull up behind me and not get pulled over. I couldn't get the car to pass emissions at the time but had paperwork. Oh well, won't do that again.
Jilopy! As commie as it sounds, I'm all for vehicle inspections on certain things. There are just a ton of cars out there that do not belong on the roads. It's for the safety of everyone afterall
Yeah, yeah hate on the poor who can't afford a real car, until you get hit and injure you or your passenger let alone the damage to the car. I've seen people bail out of hoopties after minor accidents and run. Not a comfortable thought knowing you will be fighting like hell with your own insurance company if you went the cheapest route for your own coverage. Something to think about
It's an unintended consequence of Atlanta's poor commitment to mass transit; people are forced to buy automobiles but they really can't afford the upkeep of an automobile. But they also can't afford to spend 2.5 hours each way getting to their $7/hour job.
so true, love how marta's first cut was what is known as the "maid routes" yeah good way to stick it to the rich folks. Granted you can't solely blame marta as they tried to get stops in the right areas but you had all these grass root movements saying "not in my neighborhood" crap. and you wonder why the rail stops are nowhere near where they should be. Hey I have an idea, lets go rob a couple of houses then stand at the bus stop for a hour with all the loot. dumbasses
Or you could consider the never-ending budget cuts against Marta as well. Now that we're sitting right and ready at $4 billion in debt, I don't forsee Marta ever getting any of the funding it continues to ask for.
on a related note. I always wonder why the tests to get a license are so damn easy, but in reality there's millions of people driving without licenses anyway...also a reason they take off running
You'd think our license fees were too expensive for some...but seriously, $10 to $35.00. If you cannot cover that, you probably shouldn't be in a vehicle on a road.
Could be like Germany, about a grand for a license and better tort laws as well. I like the simple idea that if I'm drunk and plow into your car and you weren't wearing a seatbelt or your child under 12 was in the front seat, I'm not responsible for you or your families injuries. Of course being convicted of DUI there also means I wouldn't have a license for at least 5 years and that's on the first offense and no hardship license either. Before you counter that Europe has better mass transit, might want to look at current trends there as of now. They too are having cut backs as the population has moved towards personal vehicles.
