I've decided to go ewg, but I'm a noob to this type of setup, and wanted some info/advice. I've got an FP green, stock location.. bought an ewg up pipe with an atmosphere dump, 38mm flange (didn't think I needed to go bigger with only a green), but I don't know what wastegate spring to choose. I'm looking at Tials and Turbosmart, but there are a lot of different spring ratings, and I have no idea what to buy. I run 21psi on it now with 93 oct, so which spring do I get?
First don't get the turbosmart they are nothing but problems. Spring rate is pretty simple. With a boost controller hooked up you can run double the spring rate. So just figure out what the max boost is you want to run and buy a wastegate with the right spring. With a green I would get something in the 14-18lb range. At 18lbs you will be close to the boost you are going to run on pump.
Thanks for the info... any other brands that are good? I'm running a Hallman pro mbc.. does that change anything? I'd say max boost would be around 22psi.
I would go with the 18 psi spring. The wastegate will actually start to open prior to that0 18 psi rate. I also agree that Tial would be my first choice. Give me a ring at the number in my signature.
Tial, proven to work great time after time after time. Why would you want to go with anything else? I hope you got an up that has the new 38mm V-band clamp. They are as cheap as $150 with the dump tube. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthre...ewg-uppipes-cnt-new-release-group-151721.html
is there any way to tune the ecu to run with the ewg or do you have to have an additional boost controller?
You can run the stock EBCS with the EWG but most would encourage you to upgrade the stock EBCS. The factory ECU can still control the boost but you will need someone to tune it.
I have a question about an external wastegate setup. What is the main difference between having the dump tube vent into the downpipe vs atmosphere? Is it just one is louder than the other or do you get better performance dumping into the downpipe? Sorry if this is a dumb question.
You got a little more power by VTA. It is also a lot luder and scares all the people around you when the WG opens up
Leak free, no worries on a gasket going bad, rotate 360 degrees for easier installation....The first one should of sold you. If you don't get a v-band EWG kit, you will regret it. You need one of the tial V-band wastegates. I think all of their 44MM WG are vband and the new MVS 38MM is a vband
I am thinking the setup listed in the first few posts will be ideal along with the Tial 38m vband. Glad this thread was created as it help me decide what I wanted to do. Go ewg or not.
Thanks for the info guys.. the up pipe I bought isn't a v-band, but I can always have a 2 bolt to v-band adapter welded on before install.
