got a set of bbs's and im looking to get some tires for them but i have no idea which to go with
kumho spt (great in the rain)
    sumitomo htrz 3
hankook ventus evo k12 (heard about these so called soft side walls?)
    nitto neo gen zrs
any others? not looking to break the bank on a set of tires
as for size, tire rack claims a 245/45 will fit on a x7.5 but would it be too much for that width? should i stay 225/45?

    help me:|. thanks in advance

depends on the brand but a 245 can be mounted on that rim.

I had a set of theh Kuhmo, but returned and traded them for a set of Falken FK-452.

The sumitomo are cheap, but that's about it.

techlord has the K12's and loves them. He says they grip better than RE-01R's, but I still think he's full of it. :p

I have no information on the Nitto's.

Dunlop Star Specs are a great tire.

I hear the Yokohama S.Drives are decent.

Also want to look into a 235/40-17

Yea the re01R's don't seem to do nicely in the cold. The Yoks are great for the money.

I ran a set of the Ecsta SPTs once upon a time. They're great for conventional driving; however, if you put any sort of abuse into them they simply fall apart.

I have ran just about tire make there is on my car.LoL It's all in what you want out of your tires just know if you buy cheap tires that is what your getting cheap tires. The new Continental DW or DWS are great options and probably the best bang for the buck tire on the market at moment....

What are you going to do with the car? DD it everywhere...? Like it's been said, ultimate-grip summer tires (Star Specs, RE-11s, RS-3s, etc) don't grip well/at all below 35* or so.

The DWS is a great (based on reviews) all-season tire. DW should be a solid summer tire without breaking the bank.

If you don't plan to drive in snow, DW. If you plan to roll around in the white stuff, DWS, IMO.

Hankook V12 K110's and call it a day. The RE01Rs sidewall is not as stiff and was the tire of choice for OLOA 2yrs ago and I would toss those in the trash if someone would give me another set of Hankooks.

tell you what you buy a set of 245/40/17's Hankooks and I will trade the RE01R's off the racecar. they have about 500 mi and 6 trips down the strip...still has sticker residue and cost MUCH more than the Hankooks.
Can I be any more clear how impressed I am with this tire?

EDIT: just read the replies about the snow, I drove to work with the hankooks every day the week of the 10th. Tore up Pope High Schools parking lot and was in complete control the entire time. It took 4th gear full boost to get a bit sketchy and even still very predictable.

Don't get me wrong I like the Hankook V12. But after having the chance of going out to the Continental proving grounds in Uvalde Texas for work I fell in love with the DW and DWS....... We got the chance to test them against Michelin,Bridgestone,Hankook,Toyo,Yoko and a few others and the Continental hands down just out performed the rest....

what the hell do you do for a living?!:eek3:
never have i ever heard such negative reviews on a tire as hankooks k12's, some ppl on nasioc (uncle scotty) f*cking hate them. but i hear awesome reviews on them as well, only way to tell is to find out for yourself.
my plans have changed and i'm looking at a set of wheels that come with toyo R1R 50% treads, those wont last long. if not, i'm looking at DW's. i live in ga, i barely see any snow

Ok now I believe you are full of it. Last night I took my buddies MCoupe out and it has the Kooks V12 on it.....talk about soft sloppy side walls when on the bleeding edge pushing it. My RE050A run flats are better.

Waiting till the weekend for the Conti DWS test drive on a LS2 powered 240SX. He raves about the all around versatility of them in the wet and dry and the snow when we got it a few weeks ago. Not to mention the LS2 is a tq tire shredding monster and he has 12K on them with tons of life still.

EDIT......techlord made a good point.....the MCoupe may be to heavy for the Kooks. So it really does depend on the car they are on.

Hankooks are not the best all out tire but for the money they are hard to beat.

I agree. For money they are very good but they are not the end all of tires like techlord is making them out to be.

My Hankooks held up better in the mountains than the BFG KDW II's I was running before.

I had the S.Drives...flat out scary in the rain and in the mountains. I will never buy them again. I have the V12's on the car for about 12,000 miles and they are starting to feel their age. Road noise has increased and wet traction is not what it once was...which was outstanding.

I don't drive my car like Rick, but I can tell you that it is very hard to get these tires to make any noise other than a low grown before they break loose.

I might get them again, but I would like to see more about the DW's.
