I think I'm going to throw down on a 6870 soon, although I never like ATi drivers. $200, and add another later.

btw, some folks spend that much on a super CPU but here's your display setup...

9X Media X-Top - 9X Media's X-Top enhances and enables high definition applications and real-time online transactions as well as monitoring of mission critical information. This desktop multi-screen – single-user - video wall is comprised of fifteen 24" 9X Media SlimLine LCDs and 9X Media's HD-6400 video wall controller utilized in an extreme desktop setting.

    just downloaded 3dmark06 and pcmark

heading to the gym now, i'll run them when I get back on both normal and OC gpu settings

honestly don't really even know how to overclock the cpu, not that i'd really need to

    edit - i'll get 3dmark vantage, too...wth

Wow... I forgot what proggys you can use to OC the CPU.
eVGA has their Precision utility to OC the GPU.

You want to use BIOS to OC the CPU. There are a few different ones for GPU.

You don't really *need* to, until you see the difference it can make. We have the same GPU, run 3dmark06 and compare to mine http://3dmark.com/3dm06/13835634. Only a couple games use more than 2 cores, so with most games it comes down to MHz.

In 3d modelling, or encoding, that X6 will kick ass, stock or not.

Well, thanks to this damn thread I ended up pulling the trigger on this:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814261097

I used the pay later option, since I'm a red-blooded American. Arrrgh! That card is going to smoke though, and now I can use a bare HDMI cable without adapter.

Isn't there any CPU OCing software?
I was pretty sure there was.

Check the board mounting and make sure you are not grounding it anywhere.

remember the "O" stands for off (or open, how I perceive it) :keke:

I have a 950W PS here if you wanna grab it. I haven't tested it since it came outta my old rig (something failed hardware wise, not sure what it was)

yeah, I took everything back apart and still nothing.

Drew, I think about that...given that two of your hdd boards popped, I'm thinking it might be from that. ;) But I'll let you know.

I may see if Microcenter will sell me another P67 mobo and test that as well as selling me a PS. If this mobo is DOA, then I'll return it to microcenter

Stupid trial 3DMark, I'll download a cracked version tomorrow, as I can't see specific details

    3DMark06 - 652 / 1406 / 1203 (core, shader, mem) - 15913
    3DMark06 - 705 / 1520 / 1203 - 16160

    Matt:

If you're not getting anything, no POST or anything at all, most likely it's your PSU. See if you can borrow a hefty one and try it. These days it's very unlikely to get a DOA part.

I've got a couple rigs that refuse to power on with certain power supplies, and those same power supplies are in other machines running them fine. Sub-$100 450-550W PSUs have problems booting high-end or server quality machines.

Let me know if you have more trouble.

new power supply and re-hitting all power connectors got it up and running.

Yeah. It sounded like a PSU problem in the first place.
Turn on PSU w/o any fan movement/start up? DEAD PSU.

    I though so as well.

    AMD Athlon II x2 250
    Foxconn MB
    2GB DDR3
    Small Form Factor case

    $206 with tax

    AMD Athlon II x4 640
    MSI MB with intergrated HDMI
    4GB DDR3 RAM
    Small form factor case

    $196 with tax

The 10% less was when I matched the ram at 2GB. :|

A lot of the tower heatsinks look the same.
I think Linus at NCIX did a review/unboxing of it.
I'll still go with a Noctua though.

I installed a Frio fan tonight. I also replaced my old case fans with new ones.

I then preceded to just go for it an overclock my Core i5-760(2.8Ghz w/ Turbo up to 3.2Ghz) to 3.6Ghz(no turbo enabled). The CPU while running Prime95 at 3.6 is at a cooler temp than it was at stock speeds and stock fan under full load. It is about 15* C lower now than it was stock.

I will continue to run Prime95 tomorrow and see if it is truly stable. If it is, I will be tickled.

How far did you push your Sandy Bridge, Matt?

I also overclocked my GTX460 yesterday/this morning. It seems to be stable as well. I will of course do more tests tomorrow. I had to work today. :p

I haven't overclocked it. I don't really have much of a need to do that
