i was wondering what you guys think about this, i was planning on buying some ramps from advance auto parts. they are about 50 for the set. i like these because i think they are the cheapest way to lift a car. i think im just going to buy them because i plan on using them later on to do basic servicing on my car. Should i buy the ramps? or some other type of lift? * also i like them because all you need to do is drive up them  less labor :keke:
hmm i recently gave, yes, gave for free....away my ramps, jack, and jack stands... i could have just shot them your way to save you a few bucks... but anyway, make sure your car can get up the ramps ok, bc my 08 could not even make it up the ramps anymore without severely scraping up the underside of the lip
I'm pretty sure a handful of members, if not a lot, have ramps. Bixs uses them. They seem to be pretty handy, and I may go pick some up.
the 6.5 inch ramp can hold a max tire width of 7.5 inches... mine are 8 so i need to get the 11.5 inch ramp.. i think i might be too high
Honestly, I think you may be over analyzing this. Ramps are handy. They can be bought cheaply. They work well, are safe, and can be used more quickly than jack stands for many common maintenance activities such as exhaust installs, oil changes, etc. They even make plastic ones that are readily available at Advance and similar parts stores, light, low profile, cheap, and can support a medium size car without issue. The sides are also short enough that, as long as you get the ramp centered in the tire track, wheel width is not an issue. Ramps are good. Get them. That is all.
I agree. Used them for the first time ever on a car when I did the diff swap on my M3. Guess what....I own a set now. Sure beat lugging that heavy jack around and all that. I'll save the jack for when I need all 4 wheels up.
I got a pair of ramps about a month ago and they work fine with my car (06wrx). They are the rhino ones like at autozone but I got them off of amazon for $40 shipped nextday.
If you want to do it right, get a set of ramps, a decent Jack, and at least 1 set of jack stands. The ramps are great if you can get up them, but they have their limits. There will be things you will need to do under your car at some point that you will need to have the wheels off the ground. That is where the Jack and Stands come in.
Go to Home Depot, find a 6x6 and have them cut it in half. Then have them put an angle on them and you've got your ramps.
I'd actually vote you only get ramps if you need to load your suspension for say...endlinks. Otherwise, it works just as well to put the car up off all fours and rotate the tires every oil change.
