Well, it's that time to register for points event #2 in the 2011 Atlanta Region SCCA SOLO series. We should have some great weather this weekend and we need your guys help to make this event as successful as our first one. We had over 200 people registered and some of the best competition I've seen in quite a while. Also, we're keeping the online registration ability to register for morning and afternoon runs to give you guys the most number of runs possible. Register online here: http://www.motorsportreg.com/index..../uidEvent/917EB4BB-F026-B245-F1CA3281C106916C Please feel free to email or PM me with any questions. Had a good time. I did ok i guess, havent been to an auto-x in a good 4 years and auto-x driving is much different then track driving. Best raw time was a 54.76 with DNF/missing a gate, best clean was a 57.6 basically doing a feeler run. I was on a set of 08 OEM STI dunlop's, not a bad tire, I had no idea what to expect out of them as i have never driven on them and didnt even bother touch my tire pressure from my original 38-36 fr rr set-up. Looks like I may have been able to pull some more pressure out as my scrub bars were not at the tips of the sidewall arrows. But i new the tire was not the limiting factor on my outings so i just let them be rather then trying to chase thousandths of a second and possible making something worse. For reference, a turbo charged miata on r-comps on ohlins coilovers did a 48.1. Forgot how clear headed i need to be when walking these courses. Is it ok to bring my mtn bike next event and bike the course? It will be easier to get a imprint on the course in my head with sense of speed and direction change which you dont get walking. Also, i did a glance online and only saw results from the 2010-2009 season, are recent event results updated online?
Results were posted last night. http://www.soloatlanta.com/?page_id=593 For reference an 89 civic on street tires ran a low 47 And no you cant use a bike or any other vehicle to 'walk' the course. Seeing the course at speed that is faster than walking is against solo rules. Exceptions are only made for folks that have medical issues that prevent them from walking for 20 minutes. They can use a bike or golf cart but they can only move at walking pace.
I found 44 psi or so on the tires will make a world of difference. chalking them and then doing some pre solo testing to optimize tires will get you even lower times
Well heres the thing, running the pressures i was i wasnt even scrubbing to the tips of the wear arrows. So if anything it seems i should have been dropping pressures. Unless its running knowledge that you dont tune tire pressures off of the wear bars on tire... Im surprised the civic wasnt faster actually. Looking forward to this Sunday.
