I have zero vested interest in either shop... but I have to say Leh Keen could be your brother... that would not make him any less of a ringer. It would be a little bit like me showing up at a Peachtree City softball league telling everybody Jason Heyward is a neighbor of mine and he wanted to play softball.... I say find a unaffiliated amateur driver familiar with AWD platforms with lots of seat time and let him/her flog the hell out of all entered cars. 10 laps to run continuously back to back but only count 5-8 of the hottest laps to remove the statistical outliers caused by lack of familiarity with the cars. B.Reel is on the mark... we could setup the perfect set of rules but it will probably never happen- let the poo flinging continue. Who are we kidding- we read all the nonsense because it's as least as entertaining as WWE and we are all too manly to watch the daytime soaps. That said... I have a 2002 bugeye wagon daily driver with 190K I might sell for dirt cheap- need to get in a better commuter car for my 90 mile daily commute.
suggestion to make more of the community involved: make it a charity event. charge spectators to come watch and the winning shop gets to donate all proceeds to charity of their choice.
There's enough charity and government programs for that kind of BS. I want to see a race not a freaking charity event.
just a suggestion to get more people involved. other than the shops. otherwise, you have 2-3 shops at a track and no eyewitnesses other than themselves..... all proceeds go to winning shop? lol
Should make it so the winner gets to pick people's names out of a hat to win a prize...i.e. free tuning or something within those lines.
I have no disdain for any shops. I've extended many an olive branch...each time I think we're making progress, someone drops another big turd into our threads.
blah blah blah, all I hear is proposals, posturing, rules, typical youthful socialist BS, what's missing is proposed dates, times and locations. Enough of the bullshit, if it's going to happen start working on those missing issues.
Scott, Sharif, and Doug are in a boat in the middle of the ocean, and a giant shark comes up to the side of the boat.....
I think we just need to revive the photoshop thread : http://wrxatlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5361
Brian is right, stop fucking off with stupid ass comments and suggestions (such as my own suggestion) and set a fucking date already. Doug and Matt need to for sure drive because they are the two that talk all of the shit. Shariff I am sure knows people at Road Atlanta, so Shariff.... set it up and let all affected parties know. DAMN IT MAN!:|
It will never happen at Road Atlanta, track rental is way to expensive. It will have to be Roebling or TGP.
Rent out TGP and hold a track day as well. Name it Atl Shop Challenge trackday, have 3 cars out at a time max of 12-15 cars total, dedicate a portion of the track time to the competition(say 11 to 1pm, shouldn't take long). That way you have a free competition for the shops, the entrants get a nice, fun, inexpensive track day. Cliffs:hold a open track day and shop challenge as one event. Make it cheap for entrants and free to the shops. Lots of way to spin this to make it cheap and fun for everyone.
Well shit last we talked stage 2 sti's easily get into the 130's at tally right? Besides tally is cheap and more accessible to most. But yeah other then that pick your posion. I would look into turning this into more of an event then just a challenge day.
We are to busy testing aluminum rods on customer cars to harvest the money. Edit I'm kidding we don't test on customer cars. Just wanted to clarify for those that didn't see the sarcasm in that post.
no, i shot that bitch with a beebee gun. listen to the little devil (aka - ball) on the other shoulder
.. sorry, seems like i'm late to the party, but why not hire a hot shoe to drive all cars in time trail racing so it's about the car built, no lifting mid corner dirty tricks, just time trails, it would show case the cars ability better than door to door racing. if you want to show your nuts on who's the best driver go door to door. best shop = 1 proffesional driver+ time trial.
It may be tough for you to believe, but the rods have been tested to over 1200 hp and never had an issue. Not trying to get into an argument, just clarifying for the record. Because at this point it has become who has the biggest dick contest, not who is the best shop or the best tuner or whatever. There really is no good way to do this as with the current atmosphere I severely doubt anyone could agree on anything. I love the idea of having friendly challenges, but that is not what this is all about unfortunately. I remember back in the day when there were tons of meets and people could meet in public and hang out. But for some reason (maybe because the economy has made things a little tighter?) there now exists a severe animosity between everyone. I personally say let everyone's results speak for themselves. But there are a lot of egos involved in this now from every direction. Go out race, have fun. While there is an element of making a living in this for the shops, we are all in it because we enjoy it and have a passion for it. Time to let tempers cool and maybe we can eventually get back to being reasonable to each other. This could be a very cool event not just for the shops, but for the community too! Heck, I have almost zero road course experience, but when I get my car done I would enjoy testing it out on something like this just for fun! I think it would be cool if everyone from the various shops could go out, have a beer (or other favorite beverage) and be cool. We need to get back to the point of having professional courtesy and even cooperating on occasion. I am not sure what it would take to get back to that point, but it is something to think about. Edit: By the way, anyone who comes out to the Test and Tune from any of the shops (and of legal age) is welcome to a beer on me
We can make it more challenging by inviting other shops from the southeast. Why race against shops you know locally? Get other shops involved so the money can be put into a pool to help fund the event.
Sry guys... crappy interweb service down here. Really not much to add to this thread right now. Pretty sure if I owned a GTR I would be down to drive it or let Matt do so. But since I don't I doubt that will happen.
Scott would break out his handy belt tool kit and clean the barnacles off and Sharrif would tell him that a wing and a set of volks would make him swim faster.
Thanks Ddougg. Mike brought up a lot of good points. If we all acted more like responsible adults and business people, and avoiding the easy and self-serving temptation of tearing each other down I think everyone could get along just fine. We can be civilized competitors and partners at the same time. The gone it alone approach never works in the long run. Let the results speak for themselves. I for one, would love to see more shops involved in all forms of Motorsports and competition. Have a good weekend, all.
damnit, don't try taking the high road and doing that, it removes all the fun and drama (which, deep down, everybody enjoys) why not just sign up for the grassroots challenge...cheap, revolves around fabrication and shop skills, and we may get some additional folks from the boards in on it
If you are talking about the 2011 challenge it takes to much time and commitment to win. If you are talking about the ultimate track car challenge we will be there with two cars.
i was meaning make an event like that, so you don't price out the consumers with base cars like an r35 poor wording on my part. you coming over today?
