Just had a new to me turbo installed at All Pro BTW amazing customer service/work done on my car!

Anyways car runs great no loss of boost, no loss of power, no check engine light not running hot or anything. When the car gets aroudn 2800-3000ish RPMs I get a rattle that sounds like its coming from the Front of the car not near the Turbo. I have done quite a bit of research and lots of people say its probably a heat shield... but I have done through and tightendn all bolts up shock everythign and am yet to find a rattle. Any suggestions/past experiance would be awesome!

What kind of turbo did you have installed? OEM VF39? Aftermarket?

Check the stock upipe shield. Mine rattled b/c I put a different downpipe on it and so the factory upipe shield didn't bolt up to the stock downpipe heatshield.

Agreed...or it's the actual heat shield on the turbo. Trying to play the "where's the noise coming from" game while inside the cabin is damn near impossible.

As I was driving home from work the rattle turned to squeeking and my engine died 2x within 5 miles luckily I got some video footage I am uploading now...

Wow, just realized it was 1AM and not...you know, the middle of the day. FML.

Are you changing the throttle yourself in these videos?

sounds like its getting worse with each video you post.
i would not start the car anymore and have it flat bedded to the shop.

Yeah that is the plan but I had to get it home! I cannot afford a flat bad... esepcially since I just dumped 15,000 buying the car 2 weeks ago and the turbo going out 20 min after I bought the thing haha.... FML wish the military paid us better throwing in a baby into the mix doesn't help either... the wifey is not happy about my choice on this car haha

know anyone with AAA ? coast the car out in the road in front of your house and have them call AAA and say there stranded, result car towed :) One of the nice things about AAA as it covers the person not the car.

Is your AC on during all of this? How does the clutch on the compressor look? I've been reading a healthy amount about failures there lately as I have been troubleshooting my own AC woes. I realize it may be a stretch, but it's difficult to discern from just a video.

clutch feels and looks fine ac was off and windows down when I herd the noise initially. turned AC on as I was driving home and the car died at red light. but cranked back up. still no check engine lights or anything.

If you have Geico, call them and add roadside assistance. Then just call back and say you need to be towed ^_^. I pay like $15 every 6 months for my roadside

My question is. Where did you get this car from? Blown turbo, no stereo to speak of and some other nasty issue.

Check intake / intercooler (boost leak problems maybe?). Give Brandon a call. Maybe he will tow it to the shop for you? Who knows

as the videos progress the "small rattle" don't sound so small. Sounds a lot like a loose or bad belt..but what do I know. gl with the wife..she'll get over it (ha..no she wont)

haha she is still pissed this morning as im getting ready to head back to work woohoo 24 hour shifts are my fave! but when I originally posted the small rattle it wasnt that bad I just pulled over and made the post it got worse on my drive home :(

Tomorrow morning I plan on going over every bolt in the engine compartment and double tapping it to make sure nothing came loose... This is pretty much the only thing I can do for now.

I guess title of post should go from being small rattle to insane noise!

You might want to get that motor compression tested or a leakdown test.

Just got off the phone with the Dealer and they pretty much said they wont help me anymore. Looks like I may be taking further actions soon. I cannot afford to spend any more money on this car seeing how I just dumped 15,000 into it plus 700 for the new to me turbo. I sold my Jeep to get this car so now im stuck with a broke down vehicle. My wife still has her car but I gotta work... which is an 18 mile drive 1 way from the house I have to leave the car with her at home since she is 8.5 months pregnant. I work random times/hours for instance I work today from 6am till tomorrow 6am 24 hours monday i work 330 am till 4pm so this is just a PITA

Yeah. It's fairly obvious they sold you a piece of crap. For it to break down on your way home from the dealership (and in such a catastrophic way) is a load of BS. Unfortunately as far as I'm aware with GA car sale laws you don't really have much of a leg to stand on legally. Maybe try to contact a local news agency, the BBB etc. Perhaps with enough bad word of mouth they will reconsider.

How many days have you had the car? How many days has it been in the shop?

Rattling? It's what makes a subaru a subaru

I didn't listen to the videos, but skimming through what was said I would make sure and check all your hoses and stuff, too. Vacuum leak could explain why the car stalled, and may explain why you're getting some shakes in there. Call brandon / patrick, they don't come highly recommended for nothign

I tried getting ahold of all pro but they are closed weekends and they are also in the middle of moving. Check out the video especially the last video... the sounds get worse and worse!

How many miles are on this car?

I vote for calling Brandon first thing Monday morning. Or you can shoot Patrick a message (user = allprosubaru) on here and he may get it before Monday. I'm sure they will do everything they can to help you out.

With that being said, I know someone with a good 2.5 longblock if you wind up needing one.

Whats the condition of the oil thats in it? Does it leak, is it low, have you recently done an oil change, etc??? Are you running premium gas?

My Subaru rattles, pops, vibrates, etc lol. It makes all kinds of weird noises. It scared tallgeese2 when he took it for the night lol

Just got off the phone with USAA and since I was a cheap idiot I didnt take the extended loan coverage which would have covered this issue in FULL... FML... should have sucked up 25 extra bux a month for it...

Im going to go ahead and say rod bearing... Pretty clear if the turbo fails there is some sort of oiling issue with the engine. Which could lead to rod bearing failure and the rattle noise your hearing.

Take a screw driver and use it as a stethoscope and have your wife press the throttle, or just remove the downpipe and look for yourself. After seeing your pictures of the turbo I'd almost bet your replacement turbo met the same fate.

Edit: just watched you're last video, I agree with doug, sounds like a bearing. Change your oil and look how sparkly it is.

nicad Yes I am a troll

it sounds like a bearing to me. the fact it is RPM dependent does not bode very well

Don't start it, it's fucked and no sense in fucking up anything else. You might be able to salvage the heads if nothing got into them.
