Class warfare never comes from the top. https://occupywallst.org/ I'm just posting this since it's getting a huge media blackout. None of the large news networks will touch this story but there are between 50,000 and 100,000 people camping out on Wall Street right now and have been for a week now. Yahoo wont let people send email about it for the safety of their users.hnoes:
+1 So let me get this straight...you work hard so you can have it taken away from you and given to someone else? What ever happened to personal responsibility? We all make our own lives in this world. Nothing is going to be handed to you. You have to make the effort. I do not believe in taking from the hard work of others to give to those that don't want to... We would be much better as a society if we encouraged hard work over holding our hands out waiting for something free. The sad truth is that the bulk of our population would rather sit at home and get the handout. They like the idea of "ending wealth inequality" because they see it as a way to be lazy and still get money. They don't want to make the sacrifices it takes. Are there bad rich people out there that are greedy as hell? Sure...but there are plenty of people bleeding the system dry and that is just as bad. "Redistribution of wealth" is another tagline that goes along with this one. It doesn't work...but it gets votes.
You should love politics, I wish more people would get a little more excited about political activism since we have great democratic measures in place. We even think our system is so good that we go to war in other countries to convince others that our system is better. Upcoming elections are pivotal in getting this country back on track, and I'm talking more than just the presidential election. The president is one man (or possibly woman), congressional elections are much more important but receive far less coverage. I'm not entirely agreeing with these protesters but just appalled that no media outlets will touch the story. CNN is on the teabag payroll, fox news wont even cover it to blast lies and mistruth about the movement.
I'm mostly in agreement with Bobby here, I think there is a severe lack of social and civic responsibility from the under 40 crowd. The one thing I disagree with here is the jab at CNN and Fox, the state of the news industry makes me want to scream. I'm not saying that CNN and Fox aren't biased because they obviously are, but they aren't anymore bias than other news networks they are just biased in a direction that most people aren't used to.
The truth is that NOBODY falls 100% into any one "party". Most people fall somewhere in the middle of the two major parties The political "party" system just isn't working out. Something needs to be done about it.
I am personally not a fan of a two party system period. Hell I'm not a fan of any party, I think that every representative should be elected on his or her own merits, not what their party stands for. I don't think you should have which party candidates are on the tickets, that way people can't vote their "party". It would force people to actually think for themselves.
I hate one party more than the other, but I hate the other enough to avoid proclaiming I am one. If that makes my comment clearer
it's hard on the internet though, in person it's more fun. You can tell when people are actually making shit up lol
the 'under 40 crowd' had their values and morals instilled in them by the 'over 40' crowd and the 'over 40' crowd has pretty much fucked everything up. blaming young people is the worst scapegoat in the history of man. name any national or state policy maker under the age of 40.
I guess I see it differently because I was taught civic and social responsibility at home. To some extent I agree with you Justin, I think it has as much to do with bad parenting as it does with the way to bias to the left school system and media outlets. Everything they teach these kids in school is left wing biased, its to bad we can't get fair and balanced anywhere.
Good discussion going on here. I agree with nicad and a lot of what slowwrx said. Is there really some 50k to 100k people camping on Wall St? Where the proof? I can't see the vids if the proof is there.
32 Also before anyone gets mad about any of my left wing comments, I genuinely dislike both sides. I think our bipartisan system is really screwed up. I tend to lean pretty far to the left on social issues and pretty far to right on economic issues. Social: If you are gay and you wanna get married sweet. Economic: Need help getting back on your feet, no problem pee in this cup. Heres your card you can't buy lottery tickets or cigarettes with it.
source please. arguably unconstitutional. also: "In fact, recipients of welfare use illegal drugs at about the same rate as the general population. The National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism found that the “proportions of welfare recipients using, abusing, or dependant on alcohol or illicit drugs are consistent with proportions of both the adult U.S. population and adults who do not receive welfare.” " it kills me how the right does not trust government to run healthcare, disaster relief or anything else. Yet, they trust the Justice department to administer the determination of guilt and who should live or die. There is no greater philosophical dissonance than this.
You need a source to confirm that our school systems and new organizations are biased to the left? Did you go through public school? Do you watch the news? Its not that I don't trust the government to run healthcare....its that I don't trust them to run anything. Look at Social Security. I need less Government in my life not more.
some form of quantifiable study would be nice, not just pure conjecture. if you're going to make claims like that, be prepared to back them up.
there have been multiple studies going back a decade, one as early as this year from Florida, that show that this is more costly and less advantageous than the general population thinks. will go find sources, brb
If you are ready for real fun, head on over to Bobbys facebook page, I just called his friends Socialist I'm pretty sure they are going to get pissed and for the record they are socialist.
it's easier to just blame poor people. why don't they just pull themselves up by their boot straps, like I did?
Sorry that wasn't relevant to this, it was more about what was going on, on Bobbys facebook page. It just amazes me what people think is acceptable as economic policy. This guy is trying to tell me that corporations are making to much money. My response was isn't that why people go into business to make money. Anyways, I think Ive had enough for today.
Just dig around on the internet. Yesterday there were vids of some serious police brutality against some of the protesters. The day before videos of people openly using drugs on sidewalks on Wall Street. You wont see these videos on the news. Massive censorship around the whole Occupy/Take Wall Street protests. I can guarantee that nobody on that thread is socialist, left leaning yes, but definitely not straight socialist. I will say that capitalism and greed got us into this mess. If there's one thing I learned from college level economics courses is that capitalism is an end to itself. It is not self sustaining and it will reach an end point where markets are entirely saturated, consumers do not/cannot buy goods anymore and the bottom falls out (yes liberal school system). In the end the free market is not free and is it's own killer. This global economic crisis is affecting capitalist countries, socialist, and socially democratic (what most Americans call socialist) countries equally.
charge what the market will bear, what's so hard to understand about that? when you get some asshats who haven't a clue fucking with the system you end up with what we have now.
Well obviously they aren't socialist, it was really just a quick jab. The take from the rich and give to the poor BS really annoys me.
Yeah, thats the solution. I don't have tons of money. Are you going to come after me because I'm "poor"?
I think for starters there should be an equal tax across the entire pay band. The loops the rich get to jump through is ridiculous.
That's the problem. They cater to the votes for their (the politicians) own personal reasons.....they really could give a hoot about the country/economy/people as long as they themselves are getting paid.
I say its not very funny because there are actually hard working people out there that are struggling to make ends meet. I bust my ass and I'm struggling right now.
The protesters are not even on Wall St....the closest they can get is Liberty St....3 streets away. Looks like they aren't amounting to much at all.
no kidding. and I don't buy 50,000 people at once being there for this. I work in enough conventions to get headcounts, and I haven't seen a video upload that lets me think they ever had numbers that high all at once. And i'm not seeing any news reports confirming anything beyond a couple thousand people. -_- you'd think some group like Anonymous or 4chan would be all over this if it were actually something....
well if you include the people who have to deal with this mess to go to work then it could be well over 50K
