I've been out of the stereo game for a while and i want to upgrade my stereo. I've decided not to go with the sub route for my ride. Reasons being that i dont want excess weight, and dont my trunk and doors rattling to shit. My plans were components, speakers, amp, HU. Or 2 sets of components, amp, HU. I mainly listen to rap, so looking for decent bass from the component drivers & speakers. I'd like some suggestions from some audio junkies on here. Not seeking what brands to go with, just looking for correct setup for my preference of music. Any feedback would help
Looks like you may have problems.... any components that will give you the bass response to give adequate grins with rap music will rattle the snot out of your doors..... A proper sub setup will not rattle the trunk and give way more smiles!
Replace front speakers with high quality components, wouldn't worry about rear speakers, get a nice 10" sub, 4 ch amp to power the front speakers and sub, and get a nice HU. There are plenty of stealth boxes out there and they are easily removed when you are headed to the track.
Exactly where I would recommend taking it. I don't advocate rear speakers either, but they will give you more volume. If you do choose that direction, I would advise to run them off the head unit with the fronts running off an aftermarket amplifier. That will balance the power better and allow for the rears to act more as a fill rather than compete with the front speakers for your attention.
STI turns into a rattle box with any amount of bass... be prepared for sound deadening if you want it quiet...
Slade, i like the idea of running back speakers off the HU, and components from a seperate amp. If with a sub, then 4 channel, and without sub a 2channel for the just the fronts?
With sub- either a 4 channel and bridge two channels to the sub or a 3 channel designed for component plus sub. Again, I recommend a sub for additional grin factor when listening. I do have some inventory left; components sets, coaxial drivers, subs and a few amps all under the Hertz and/or Audison brand.
I'm gonna order my stuff online to save a few bucks. Where you located? If i'm ever around that area, I'll stop by one day.
I packed up an moved to Florida- but I am going to be in the area next week if you are at all interested in the brands I carried. And I've always helped the community save a few bucks on the equipment I sell.
Has anyone with a GD body sti installed dynamat in their ride after installing a system? How many sq feet did you use and did it make a satisfying difference for you? Did you do the trunk only, doors only, both?
I dynamated my trunk and doors. I don't remember how much material was needed, but it definitely made a huge difference. I was able to eliminate most of the stock rattles, and deadened enough to the point that the only rattle I hear with the Bass kicked up is from my rearview mirror.
Appreciate the feed back folks. If I get to it, plan will be upgraded speakers in rear powered by aftermarket head unit, components up front, JL w6 12" sub, both powered by same amp, and dynamat for all doors and trunk
Anyone using one of these? Pioneer avh p3300 or avh p4300. 3300 comes with blue tooth, sd slot and ipod on front face, and blue tooth. p4300 has bigger screen but no blue tooth. Both are tight HU. Going to get one or the other but would like to know someone's thought if they're using one of the two models?
I have no experience with either model you posted up, but would suggest getting the one with Bluetooth. I wouldn't buy a new HU that didn't have Bluetooth.
trhoppe just got the 3300...he likes it, but isn't really into the whole audio thing...just wanted something other than stock http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004HW6F7O
Im 99% sure ill get the 3300 model. The 4300 offers bluetooth, but its one of those external options you can get seperate. Believe it or not, i've seen the 3300 new on slickdeals.com for around $300.
2alpine s type 12" anyone know if the alpine s-type speakers are any good? I have a set lying around just not sure if I should install. thanks
They're good, but type-r's are better. But if you have them sitting around, they'll sound better than factory
