Well I can use a helping hand from my fellow WRXAtlantians with helping me swap transmission and rear diff in my WRX. I have all the tool, just have never done subaru trans before. Will be great to have someone who has done one already. I am planning to start Sunday afternoon. Beer, drinks, pizza & grilled (tandoori chicken) will be fired up to take care of the hunger part. I will happily compensate gas if you like me to. Please let me know if you can help.
it's easy. but if you don't have a tranny jack you'll need two robust young men to help you line it up and some long peices of wood on top of a jack. i've pulled my tranny with just one helper. it's easy. just look up a clutch install on nastysoc
I have a tranny jack if you need to borrow one. I'm not sure I'll have a chance to hang out and assist however
This will be happening on jack stands so should be fun. I am borrowing transmission jack from alex so that should help a little. Alex, that will help bunch. I can swing by and pick that up today. Please PM number & address and what time I can pick it up .
I dont have any experience doing it myself, but I'll gladly help out anyway I can man. I'm getting ready to do a swap sometime in the near future too
Can the trans be removed with just jack stands? Wasn't sure if they were high enough. Unless you have access to a lift.
done it a couple of times. may have to put blocks on the stands and raise them up a good bit. but its been comfortable enough to get two people underneath and the transmission. well comfortable is relative, haha
Hmmm, I've got a couple of jacks and jackstands that can go up to 18 inch high. Would that be close in getting that trans out? Might as well pay someone to just remove and rebuild it.
I am gonna get few block just in case we need to raise it few more inches if needed. I am going to make sure this puppy ain't moving a inch before i get under and get busy.
i think both times ive removed a tranny, we pulled the engine first. gives you a ton more room, and you have to unbolt it anyways
I've done my 6 speed all by my lonesome....boy was that not fun. That thing is one heavy thing....makes the 5 speed feel like a loaf of bread.
Indeed.....Subaru transmissions have to be done dead one and perfectly right. There is absolutely no room for error like there is on a Honduh.
