Reverse Intake - Alternator Mounting Question

First off, I want to say that I searched both this board as well as nastycock about how others are mounting their alternator when performing the reversed manifold operation.

    Here are my questions:

    A) has anyone locally performed this? If so, how did you guys mount the alternator? I've already removed the A/C compressor and removed all the A/C hard lines. As previously mentioned, I've looked all over trying to see how others have done it but was not successful in finding any clear images representing what they've done. Would you be able to help me out?

    B) based on just test fitting the alternator in the general area, I'm under the impression that the oil dip stick tube may need to be altered? Am I correct?

    C) now that I'll have the IM off, do you guys really feel it would be a benefit to have the IM, TB and TGV's PnP'd? Any benefit to running a 3mm plenum spacer?

I've recently installed a rotated setup and due to the addition of a Crawford AOS, the IC coupler going to the turbo was very close to the throttle cable which made me feel uncomfortable. This past Sunday, I was trying to adjust the IC pipes to see if I can gain any extra room but got a wild hair to just reverse the intake manifold. It's already a work in progress and no looking back; well I could but that would run the fun.

pretty sure Matt Ball has and if im wrong can almost guarantee someone at topspeed has done it.

i know i've personally seen one or two in the atlanta scene. can't remember whose tho

Been there done that, have several Tshirts and both cookies that were available at the time.

My honest opinion is that its a waste of time and that your money could be spent better other places.

Ill go into more detail tomorrow...must sleep now.

I've seen many set up keeping the alt still in the stock location but it requires a small dent on the underside of the hood to accommodate it. Alt of course would have to be pushed down as much as you can push down.

Very little money is being spent at this point. I found out on Monday that I'm able to get my hands on aluminum piping and will have a local machine shop weld it together for me.

Do you have an images showing how you mounted the alternator by chance?

I removed the A/C compressor in lieu of the alternator taking it's place. Car is not a daily driver so A/C is not a big concern to me.

Why dont you put a Legacy GT Intake Manifold reversed? You keep everything with a reversed LGT manifold.

The simple way to do it is to get some 1\2 inch phenolic spacers for the intake to more it up. Then you just have to fabricate the piping. However you are going to gain very little. It takes virtually zero time to pressurize the extra piping. If you want to make a manifold change that actually makes a difference see below.

You should strongly consider this. The LGT manifold is awesome. Larger plenum, bigger straighter runners, and if flows evenly to all the cylinders. Ill most likely be testing this setup vs a cosworth intake in the near future.

What is required for this LGT setup? Manifold, LGT tgv, extending the drive by wire wiring, LGT throttle body...what else? I'm doing the reverse setup. Gosh!!!! This is such a money pit!!!

With me repositioning the alternator, clearances are not of much concern. What year LGT manifold do you guys recommend? I found one from an '06 model for $100.

Also, keep in mind that I'm not necessarily doing this for a performance gain but to give me more clearance on the backside of the engine.

the way i read that was if you used the LGT manifold you WOULDN'T have to reposition the alternator

06-0x when they changed the engine configuration (2010 maybe) I believe were all about the same. Another consideration is the 2.5 NA manifold that was used in around 2006 cars. Nice cast aluminum piece with larger plenum and larger runners and quite even as well. I have one, but it has slightly smaller runners (larger plenum though!) and is from around 2001 2.5 NA motor.

Dude, do some homework....It is pretty much a direct swap from what I have read. I dont even think you need to extend the DBW cables, just need to re-position the way they are routed. TB and TGV are interchangeable.

I think you may have to slot the center holes where the intake mounts to the TGVs but thats about it.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. You dont really have to slot them, just remove the metal collar inside of them and then use a big washer on the bolt. It is pretty simple.

Yeah yeah. I'm not ready to do this yet. First time hearing about this and was curious. Got to get my raw fuel smell issues out first.

take care of the fuel lines while flipping the manifold! 2 birds with 1 stone

I'll wait till next year unless the motor goes out on my earlier. Got to get the wife's car back on the road since this is the only running car.

Well, fine for me but not for the wife and kids since they have to ride in it.
