Got rid of the annoying seatbelt chime

So after way too long of dealing with the seatbelt chime in the drive through, while warming up my car, waiting on the gf in the store, etc; I finally decided to do something about it. It took several hours poking around with a voltage and amp meter to figure out what needed to be done. It involved slight wiring changes as well as physical modifications to the seatbelt buckle.

I have had mine modified and working for about 2 weeks now, and I'm thinking about offering this as a service to other WRX and STi guys. I searched but did not find anyone else offering this.

For those that are no close to me (Duluth, GA) they can send me the buckle and attached wiring harness. $50 (this includes return shipping)?

For those that are close and want to come to my home I can remove the buckle/harness and do the work. It is easiest to remove the seat to remove the buckle. $60?

I realize altering the mechanism for the seatbelt latch is a very critical safety concern and I have accounted for this. Each buckle would be thoroughly checked, and tested multiple times before reinstallation and all will be treated as if they are going in my car.

Note: If you don't like this idea or are one of the big proponents of annoying seatbelt dinging please keep your comments to yourself.
This is not intended to encourage un-seat belted driving but to alleviate the unnecessary and annoying instances of the seatbelt chime. If you feel you are not responsible enough to keep a seatbelt on without having this annoying chime then I would like to remind you that YOU are the reason people get seatbelt tickets and the reason the chime was implemented in the first place. Therefore this service is not for you.

With all that said is anyone interested?

This can be done without any alteration to the mechanism itself.

And if you want to try and sell your services you should look into getting a vendor account.

this was my favorite mod on my subaru...and it's free, only takes 30 seconds, and does require altering a single thing.

turn the key to the 'On' position, insert and remove the seatbelt in the buckle as many times as you can in 30 seconds (I think it's 15-20 required), turn the car off and remove the key...done. It will chime the first five times or so and never chime again afterwards.

If people are interested in paying me for my knowledge, feel free to PM me for my paypal address...if I have enough donations, I'll even pay for vendor fees

edit - crap...should've made them pay first before telling them how it's done...

I did like it when it brought to my attention my passenger didn't have a seatbelt on. I'm not sure I understand though when it goes off while just warming up the car. Would it do that? There has been a few times it pissed me off, I know I tried this trick on my 09 (RIP), but it didn't seem to work.

I know of the 20 click thing but that has to be re-done after tunning (adding a Cobb) or redone any time the battery is disconnected. Plus the seatbelt light stays on (from what I understand).

In this situation the dinging is gone forever as well as the seatbelt light.

Thanks for the good feedback so far

I typically do the click thing..as annoying as it is..it's a simple enough mod. Glad you found a way that makes you happy!

    I just buckle my seatbelt.

No dinging and I get the added pleasure of being safe.

the chime goes off whether or not the car is moving...for example, oh shit i left something inside, sorry passenger but you have to listen to the chime as long as the keys are in the ignition. Or, for example, you work out of your car a lot.

I'm a huge proponent of seat belts, but I don't need an annoying chime to remind me I like living

Same page with LTD, a chime has its purpose in the world filled with mindless fucks, but for people who have a clue of wtf they are doing, its annoying as shit.

Simple as clicking the seatbelt in if you are working out of the car a lot but I can see your points. I just never left the key in the car......problem solved (isn't that how your car got stolen?).

But it sure can be annoying at times....good thing I'm deaf....lol.

oh, it was also really annoying when i was running a harness bar and wearing a 4-point harness that didn't include the factory three point connection

Now that I can agree with. One reason I got rid of my harness.
