I was on Cobb's website looking at maps and I came across this 06 WRX Stage 2 map. VF39 93oct VF39 turbo, STI TMIC & Turboback exhaust using 93 octane. 362HP (+57%)/ 334lb-ft (+42%) Now I know different dynos will give different numbers and there are a bunch of factors. But that seems a little high to me. They are basically saying that if I bold on a VF39, TBS and STI TMIC and use 93oct I'll be somewhere around those numbers. I did some searching and I see that most pro tuned cars with this setup or more mods are not even making this. Seems a little weird to me.
Those are crank figures, hp on dynos is rate at the wheels. What the engine makes at the crank is higher then what the car makes at the wheels do to drive train loss(hp loss due mechanical friction and weight to get the whole drivetrain, wheels, and tires moving and accelerate them). Depending on the dyno, 360hp should come in around 290whp, which yes, that does sound a bit high especially for a cobb map. Realistically expect ~270whp and 103-104mph traps.
I went back and looked at it again and it said in red letters " ALL power figures are measured at the wheels, Not corrected for drivetrain losses." This is measured on their Mustang dyno.
It is a mistake. 05STi w/turboback on Cobb OTS Stage 2 93 oct I put down 282 AWHP and 297 ft-lbs tq. Protune gained about 10 more hp and 40ft-lbs at the wheels.
Let me step in as a leasoun for Cobb and officially tell you those numbers are incorrect. No if's, and's, or but's...i dont care what color or character size they choose.
It's been done before. Friend's 2004 STi with those same mods made 330hp 360 tq on TS' dyno. Again those numbers are general numbers to differentiate between power packages.
They did look high to me also. My point about the color was that they specifically made it that color so you would notice. So why would they do that? To make an error stand out? I be if you contacted them they would stand by what they wrote.
Does it matter? It's just marketing. I agree numbers are high based not off the final numbers but based off the percentages. Percentages say baseline stock was 206/140.
This was also done on a mustang dyno. Imagine if it was done on a dynojet since they tend to read higher.
Yes, it does matter. They are basically saying that if you use their map then you don't need a pro tune. Because from what I've seen not a lot of cars can make that power with those kinds of mods. Plus they are leading you on to think you are making x amount of power when you are really not.
I see your point but maybe their dyno did read that much on the test vehicle. Just cause it's a Mustang doesn't mean it reads low. Epic's Mustang was 5 hp lower than Topspeed's when I had my baseline done on the built motor. It all depends on how the dyno was calibrated.
Was that using the OTS stage 2 93 oct map? I thought we were talking about the numbers the OP found on Cobb's website regarding the OTS stg 2 93 oct tune. The numbers I listed are from TS baseline run while using the Cobb OTS stg2 93 oct.
Dyno graph and mod list. Conservative tune my fucking ass, 330whp on a cobb stage 2 sti rediculous. E85 stock turbo sti's make about that hp, meth stock turbo car's make abot that hp. Something was fucked up there, either tune, mods, or dyno was reading crank hp, or that 39 was rebuilt to an 18/20g. My 100oct race gas map sti made 305whp/365wtq from doug tuning it. I have an 18g tune coming up on my lgt, i dont expect any more then ~330whp on pump 21psi, an 18g is a superior turbo to any vf39. Rest easy young ones, those numbers are w-r-o-n-g if they are whp. Hell they are even optimistic if they are crank hahaha. OTS map making custom tune numbers? LOL.
Conservative when it did hit 350hp and Doug dialed it back? Doug dropped 1.5 psi and a good bit of timing. That was tuned way back in 2005. Go to TS and tell them to pull up Zach Hill. It's the only tune they did for him. I was there and saw it in person....my car was getting tuned at the same time. This was during Nopi weekend in 2005.
so stock STi TMIC, turboback (catted?) anything else? So the numbers you posted are after having Doug Protune the car? If so, the numbers I listed below are from the baseline running Cobb stge 2 93 and then the results after the protune on my 05 STi. Also, I pulled the pdf for my map and it lists the flywheel numbers just above the graph, below the graph is the numbers at the wheel (which are lower than the flywheel numbers) and directly below that is the statement that was referenced earlier:As measured on Cobb Tunings In-house Mustang AWD Dyno blah blah.I pulled the pdf that looks like the one you are referring to and that statement is referring to the above graph. I don't see any actual numbers listed for at the wheel... only in the graph. So obviously my opinion is the numbers listed are at the flywheel and not at the wheel. Good luck hope this helped.
Ill tell you this. I bought ap2 and ran the vf43 map on my wrx with all supporting maps, car felt different, hence the vf43 step up from td04, but after I got a pro tune from TopSpeed it was a whole different car.
