Who wants to see the new Subaru BRZ before the auto show? More importantly, who wants to SIT in the car and make vroom vroom noises? Because I doubt you'll be able to do that at the auto show in March.

As most of you know, there's a BRZ hiding in plain sight in midtown. Well, I just got word that that very BRZ will be at Subaru of Kennesaw for a few days prior to the auto show.

I haven't gotten word yet on when it'll be there, but when I do, I'll update this thread and we'll put together a little meet and head over there and see the car.

Thanks to quazar for the awesome pics!

Looks like I know where I'm going this weekend. The wife wants me to get one and even though I know they haven't confirmed anything, I want to wait for an STi version to be released.

I would like to see it. I'm thinking about picking up the STI version when it comes out for a test vehicle.

Since I work until 7pm M-F, my only chance of being able to go up there to see it would be on a weekend. The BRZ would be the DD and turn the yellow car into a full on track toy.

Im extremely interested in purchasing one, but ill wait 2 years down the road for them to find all the glitches and bad things in the first releases.

At least I am not the only poor sap that works till 7pm M-F.

I would buy one now had they not displayed an STi concept. That only makes me want to wait a year or two and see if they release an STi version. I really dig the interior for some reason.

I've been impressed with the overal quality of Subaru. I had the opportunity to produce carbon fiber pieces for them on a couple models and during my conresponces I had with their engineers and QC department, I will continue to buy Subaru's and a RWD vehicle would make for a great DD.

Just for a CF roof? Seems like all the other features would be bolt on to a standard BRZ.

^^ Well, I'm hoping it will be offered with the turbocharged FA20 motor. Could I turbocharge the current base BRZ? Sure but I would rather wait the year or two and see what Subaru says and go from there.

Rumor has it that Toyota/Scion are working on a supercharger.

i think the new wrx is gonna be fa-series no? it would be a matter of time for subaru to stick the wrx motor in the brz

They told a lot of press that they could not fit a turbo in their traditional location you see in the WRX/STI on the BRZ due to the engine location. Maybe they mounted it somewhere new.

  35. MeFryRice

    MeFryRice Member

I've heard it could possibly be a low-mounted setup. Only time will tell.

i always thought those were the worst locations for a street car, one good speedbump/pothole/rodent and your turbo is in the windshield of the car behind you

    Late Spring early Summer

I hear ya on this. When I saw the BRZ STi concept it brought back a little tingly feeling, almost to when they had the Prodrive P2 on show and on Top Gear. Would hope the STi version has the same fun driving experience but who knows, concepts usually turns out different.

Sold my 05 STi, looking for a GTR but don't think I will hold out for the STi.

My thoughts on the rear mounted setups is the ease of being stolen should someone decide they really want them.

  42. Jake

    that too

rear mounted? yeah 20 feet of extra piping makes soooo much sense...

  44. integroid

    integroid Supporting Member

The new Legacy GT has a low mounted turbo. I bet they will use something like what is on the LGT. No more up pipe and I believe it is an equal length manifold.

  45. slade1274

Wow- so much hate for the rear mount turbo... guess no one acknowledged the rofl icon.....

Oh wow. I never knew any manufacturers would even think to have that setup. The first time I saw it was this guy with a twin-turbo'd ISF on Youtube. He didn't know how to use half of the things in his car.

That's like those aftermarket kits for corvettes and trucks. What's the efficiency loss across that length of pipe? Exhaust will have cooled off as well.

  49. Sparta

Those setups usually don't use intercoolers

  50. integroid

    integroid Supporting Member

Probably because the 20ft of piping back to the Throttle Body cools off the pressurized air.
