We put just as much attention and effort into these short blocks as we do into our race short blocks. Seasoned EJ257 Block We start off with a seasoned EJ257 block; we prefer this method over a new block. This way we are starting off with an engine that has already been stressed and heat cycled. Anything that was going to shift or move in the casting has at this point so you don’t have to worry about it. For customers that want a brand new block we will be happy to accommodate them. We keep one in stock at all times so it’s not a problem. New OEM Subaru Crank Every engine should be so lucky as to have a crank this nice come in it stock. Subaru’s OEM crank is Forged, Hardened, and Nitrided. The only thing that needs to be done to these cranks is balancing and we take care of that in the machining process. OEM Subaru Forged Rods BRED Pistons We are exceptionally proud of our pistons, lots of work and energy has gone into the production of these pistons. So we tend to go into a lot of detail, we think they are worth the trouble. 1. Each one of our pistons is manufactured for a specific application 2. These pistons have quench pads which allow for a better more even burn across the cylinder. 3. All of our pistons come with anti friction coating on the skirts. This helps reduce both friction and noise associated with forged piston engines. 4. These pistons also have offset wrist pins. 5. BRED Pistons are built with a 2618 Aluminum Alloy for strength and durability. King Race Bearings 1. We use King Race Bearings in both the rods and the main journals on these short blocks. 2. The hardened race bearings may not seem like a logical choice to some, but with the new Nitrided cranks from Subaru they work perfectly. New OEM Case Bolts and O-rings We use brand new OEM case bolts and O-Rings in everyone of our short blocks. Machine work 1. Bored and Honed using our proprietary torque plate technique. 2. Main Journals are line honed 3. Front oil feed and oil filter housing are ported to allow for better oil flow 4. Resurfacing of the deck (decking the block) 5. Crank, Rods, Pistons are balanced Assembly 1. All of our engines are assembled in our engine assembly room, we take extra care to make sure every part is as clean as it can be before it is assembled. 2. Each and every part of the assembly is cleaned before the engine is assembled. 3. Clearances are all checked and recorded 4. Rods are assembled using a bolt stretch gauge; it’s the most accurate way to achieve the proper torque. 5. Bearings are installed with a proper assembly lube. 6. Rings are installed with a tapered ring compressor; we have one for every size piston we use. 7. Lubrication used in the cylinders for rings is specific to each ring manufacture. For example Total Seal Rings use a special dry film lubricant. 8. ONE and ONE, it’s a simple concept that we use here. One person does the machine work and one person does the assembly. Having two people work on one engine seems counter intuitive to some people. The truth is it keeps people from making mistakes. If one person machines and assembles the short block, he might assume that he knows the sizes and tolerances. With another person assembling it, he has no idea what it was machined to so he has to check everything. If you have questions please ask. Assembly room is currently torn a part(well partially). There is another room behind it that we are going to expand into. We are currently very limited on space. I think I have some pictures of my engine in the assembly room. Endynes assembly room that you linked to is amazing obviously thats what every shop would like to have however it isn't even remotely realistic for an actual working machine shop. To clarify, by working I mean a shop that does more than performance work. Ill dig up those pics although I'm sure they are in my 2.2 liter build thread.
