was browsing around and found reference to an email chain that lead to the recent restriction of trucks on at least the NC side of 129

    (28->Fontana Dam, northern/eastern approach)
    NC 28 GRAHAM
    No Through
    Trucks
No through truck tractors with trailers longer than 30 feet between NC 143 and the
    Swain County line. 1058468 8/29/08

    (hellbender)
    NC 28 SWAIN
    No Through
    Trucks
No through truck tractors with trailers longer than 30 feet between the Graham County
    line and US 129. 1061696 10/14/10

The new one.. this one says No instead of through trucks
(From the Dam coming from robbinsville, right near 129/28)
    US 129 SWAIN
    Trucks
    Prohibited
    Route
No truck tractors with trailers longer than 30 feet between the Graham County Line and
the Tennessee State line. 1063298 9/7/11

Until their GPS units remove this road as a possible route...the trucks will still travel.

Yea and half the problem before was they were allowed to. It's a step in the right direction. You can't assume it will fix itself without some sort of way for the state to make money off ticketing them

I never looked while we were up there, but are there signs posted for trucks to not proceed?

So close!! Maybe you just need a black civic with green neons...

Good news on the signage at least...next step is creating turnarounds at the signs to send them in the other direction.

Really? Can't come up with funds for signage? I'd bet the enthusiasts would contribute and have them paid for in ~15 minutes.

Dream would be a big concrete low-clearance abutment at each end that the trucks can't get under. You can argue need for certain instances, so make it draw bridge style with police escort or something when absolutely necessary... or something.
