I might need one of those.
My dad built a Cobra kit from them and really liked the quality.

Looks good but have to see what the final product looks like, top options, and what pieces it needs that won't come from the donor.
custom headlights/tails? I can see this getting expensive depending on the level of customization.

that goes with any kit car...for instance, some of the pedal boxes can reach a couple thousand, the dash alone has options that can cost upwards of $3,000. At some point, you have to draw the line...

They are saying the complete car can be built for sub 15k

The kits supposed to retail for 9999

got my eye on this, but they need to come out with it sooner.

I've always thought using the subaru transmission as a transaxle was a great idea. that's basically what it is with an output tail shaft

would like it better if it had a cage from FF. interested to see how track oriented you can make it

A lot of vw/914 guys taking advantage of the newer subaru transmissions. There's howto's on converting yourself by just welding/cutting, or you can buy kits for some $.

serious (possibly stupid) question: isnt that the center diff housing on the back of the tranny? is it necessary to keep the housing when you're not using the center diff? or are there other components in there that have to remain in that location?

honestly, i feel like it would be safer/make more sense to make a different tranny fit with a custom bell housing even though it may be more expensive

Yeah, comparing the two (this one vs our lotus 7 plans) and while both are very unsafe...however, i'd rather have the motor in front of me where I at least have a chance or spinning the car around before taking a head on collision.

then again, never seeing the end come wouldn't suck, either...you know, assuming it's the end

There is more metal between you and the engine in the factory five car than there is in most production cars.

There's also more safety equipment and better crumple zones on a production car than the factory fives. I know they said they offer front and rear crumple zones, but I'm not seeing much there

I know it would go against the project goals but it would be cool if you could flip the engine and transmission around and have a 4 wheel drive version.

I am considering building one of these when I am back stateside. Does anybody know the difficulties of registering a kit car?

not too difficult, especially if you buy a kit like this that comes with a manufacturers MSO. If you're building from scratch, there's a bit more to it
