    Hey guys,

I just got an STi about a month ago and am looking to get her dirty and learn my new car a bit. I've love to find some dirt and meet some of you guys. I see a lot of get togethers going on but none that involve off roading. Is anyone interested in this?

While on the topic, I've been trying to figure out where to go driving. It seems from this thread that the great areas are kept hush hush (and for good reason as that canton one was locked down). Any tips or locations you guys know of? Suggestions could be paved, unpaved, backroads, or even paid parks. I wouldn't mind (and honestly might prefer) to pay $20/day to be in a well maintained off-road area; but these all seem oriented for dirt bikes. Know of any good ones suitable for scoobs?

Also, this thread on NASIOC's southeast forum is about a guy setting up SCCA RallyX in Atlanta. Really stoked about that.

How much did you spend on the STI? Post some pics... I have allot of offloading areas up here behind my house... Wouldn't dare take my Subaru on them though...

Hey Texsun, I just started a journal - check it out here

Yeah, maybe I wasn't clear enough. I don't want to do any "off roading" where I need a foot of travel. I just want a smooth dirt road where I can have some sliding fun :) Any help finding some would be greatly appreciated.

On that topic, I'm surprised at the lack of resources on finding good driving roads. There's a lot of chatter on the dirt bike and jeep sites but not much other than that. I think next weekend, I'm going to venture to N. GA in search of some forest service roads...hopefully some will be dirt and not gravel so I don't get any chips in my paint. Probably camp with my girlfriend while I'm there.

I stand by my first comment, otherwise you'll be looking for a 90's Legacy because it will be all you can afford after pin-balling between ditches.

I know lots of amazing mountain roads, however they aren't dirt or gravel. I will check journal out now.

Pavement. Backroads and mountains. A fair amount of time in the cooler months at the track (2-3 times a month starting in late september and then the end of january/begining of february until it warms up again by march).

    Pavement, mountain roads, track days...

Our cars were rally inspired...not built for rallying. You will beat the crap out of your car on gravel roads. Mix that with how easily Subaru paint flakes off and you will have a real mess.

Back mountain roads mainly... Drive slowly a few times to learn the area, be smart and courteous than maybe you can push it... How old are you if you dont mind me asking? I personally enjoy 0-60 mph 1st-2nd gear pulls the most! Let me know whenever you want to get a mountain run going... I am off all this week/weekend!

    My driving fixes...

Autocrossing is a great way to be more aggressive than you can be on back roads and learn a lot about how to drive your car. Atlanta Region SCCA runs their autocrosses quite well and has events fairly often.
