My clutch is making a whining noise when I engage it. If I press the pedal down as if I'm trying to push it through the floor then it doesn't make the noise. Seems to only happen in the morning or when it is raining out. Any ideas?
Does the noise start as soon as you start pushing the pedal?? It is more than likely the release/throw out bearing.Go ahead and plan on replacing it soon before it disintegrates.Mine was in about 15 pieces when I removed it..
Yes, it starts to happen as soon as I push the pedal in. If I drive for a bit then it does not do it when I engage the clutch. Wouldn't it make the noise all the time?
Not at first.Mine started only doing it once and a while then all the time then kablooey(It sounded like the trans was gonna fall out)Does the noise go away when the pedal is all the way to the floor..And does it do it in all gears ??What kind of mileage is omn your car?
yes, the noise goes away when the pedal is all the way to the floor and I'm not really sure about all gears. I'll have to pay attention to that. As of now there are like 92,xxx miles on it. Was it expensive to fix or is it something you did yourself?
Did myself. But it is a pain in the butt.I did drive with a little noise for a good while but one day it got a whole lot worse and then the clutch started acting up.It is your call.I put a clutch(and related parts) in which is what I would recommend if you have not done one yet.I got right at 130k out of mine before it came apart. If you are not fairly mechanically included then you need to find someone to do it for you.Parts was around 600$ but I got a deal. Not sure what labor would be.I am guessing it depends on where you go but in the many hundreds of dollars if not more..
I would do it myself but I live in an apartment and don't have the tools. So, maybe I'll give allpro a call and see what they say. Thanks!
What is a good street setup? Is the difference between Act and Exedy come down to just a personal preference or is one really better than the other? What are people running on here for their setup and how do they like it? This might need to be another thread but I really don't want to make one.
If you are staying at stockish power levels, go with the exedy and resurfaced flywheel. Exedy=OEM Manufacturer. If you plan on making a ton of power, I would go with an ACT setup. Just a FYI - it sounds like your TO Bearing is going out which will be replaced when you change out your clutch $750 is a killer deal installed...just saying.
Its pretty much stock right now. But I do plan on modding it so I might just go ahead and get the clutch taken care of now with something that will handle more power. Thinking like a VF series upgrade. Not crazy big but more than what it is now.
I've got the exedy stage 1 and I'm running a vf43 putting about 303hp to the ground. Brandon said he's seen them hold as much as 400hp.
I'm not dead set on the VF series upgrade. Would the stage 1 be enough for an 18g or 20g? I'm thinking not.
My stock clutch held a 20G no problems so I would hope a Stage 1 will hold the power. Many people are making ~ 400whp on a Stage 1 clutch.
