Help me determine what I need......

So here's what I want to do. I installed a radio on my truck along with a rear view camera. It works great but I want to have the ability to turn the camera on while towing loads. I don't want to use some ugly switch. Since I have bluetooth directly to my hearing aids, the bluetooth on my steering wheel is disabled. I would love to be able to use the bluetooth button on the steering wheel as a 'trigger' that turns the camera on and off. You know press button camera signal on, press button signal off (NOT HOLD BUTTON WHICH IS WHAT A RELAY REQUIRES THE WAY I UNDERSTAND IT).

So what is needed to turn the pressing of the button into a on/off signal all while keeping that signal until it's pressed again or the vehicle is turned off.

I'm sure much what I just posted makes no sense....I can't type it out into words but maybe someone gets what I'm trying to say.

And of course I find my answer as soon as I post. I'm looking for a toggle switched relay.

    LOL

I was going to say a stereo surround sound cochlear implant with bluetooth and wi-fi hotspot capable then I read your post so why not a rearview mirror with screen built in?

I understand what you are trying to do. You have to find out what happens when you press that button. That will determine what you will need. I am thinking maybe a latching relay will work but it really depends on what that button does when you press it. Any good car alarm installer should be able to help you.

I already have a Double DIN radio in my new truck (2010 4x4 Frontier Luxury Edition). It has video capabilities and I rather not mess with my homelink rearview.

The bluetooth on the truck has been bypassed. So it simply sends a signal to the ASWC unit. Right now it's set to mute but I could care less about that....so I can use that signal as a trigger of sorts I'm thinking.

    they have Homelink compatible

the only reason I brought it up is a co-worker has the OEM setup plus he added another camera to the RV trailer and has it linked to the mirror.

Yeah but does it send a ground signal? Change Impedance, Send a 12 volt signal? Without knowing what the button actually does when it is pressed it is hard to determine what you need. If all it does is change impedance on the wire, I really dont know what you will need to finish your project.

Yeah. Thanks for the input.....there are so many different names for these switches but I found the one I'm looking for. This place is calling it a momentary push button power switch.

So the HU has no way of turning the camera on other than in reverse?
I know nothing of this new fangled technology, the Justy is a no towing zero radius turning car if I have a passenger.

There is an option to flip it on the headunit but if I can be a lazy arse and do it on the steering wheel then why not? LOL.
