so, assuming gimmegears hood vent is impossible to source, I`ve been looking at l'aunsports from japanparts, or kakumei one from ebay. question is, are these two really different? I think the gimme gears one is definitely bigger and follows the contour a lot better, and i assume for the price, l'aunsport will be higher quality than kakumei? been searching for some final results but could not find the photos of l'aunsport one... I`ve seen plenty of kakumei and gimme gears one so i have a decent idea of what it looks like, but I dont mind spending a bit more for the l'aunsport if it is a different design than the kakumei... still cant make up my mind if the two are different or same design.

kakumei has a larger opening than the others, quality is good for fiberglass and lays pretty close to the contours of the hood before bonding.

yeah... pain in the ass and not something you want to do without experience and proper adhesives. Best to just have a body shop do it.

Best to just leave OEM hood as is.....isn't going to do anything for ya other than looks.

pointless? yeah pretty much but does a damn good job of pulling heat out at speed and belts scream like a banshee when it rains. so not a total loss.

been for sale on that site for over 5 years now. don't think it will work with the OEM front clip as the WRC platform pushed the front wheels forward by a good 2 inches over stock.

nobody mentions price? haha.. I would be a bit worried about rain though.. would definitely have to build a guard underneath

Its designed to have a carbon fiber inverted vent to direct heat from the radiator and block rain from the engine.

ok, so i`m thinking of another direction...

if I buy this hood (i dont know if they make a fiberglass version or not... it would be sweet if they do)

can i drill a hole and put the jdm hood scoop on it? i know drilling into carbon fiber is a bit of a no no but just wondering if it can be done? it would be really nice if they make a fiberglass version of this hood but i could not find it...

Isn't that just a kaminari hood? Id be careful messing with vents and such. Done right works superb. Done wrong and you will over heat things quicker than normal.

yea been reading on nasioc about air flow and whatnot... I`ll be really honest, I just want the look of the kaminari hood and the jdm hood scoop together thats all.

    Yes, just drill a hole.

Are you running 400+ whp? Are you running the car to the point that pulling heat from the engine bay is actually an issue?

I'd spend the time and energy in other places to get everything pristine before thinking about something like this. Also...it only really looks good on rally prepped cars IMO.

If you drill the hoodscoop onto that hood hot air os just going to flow from the radiator, out the vent and into the hoodscoop.

It is also going to look rice if you haven't cleaned up the rest of the car first. It will look like you went to Pep Boys and picked up something off the shelf.

Does the hood look good on really clean cars...some would say no anyway but if it flows with the overall look than I would argue yes. Is it functional if it has supporting mods that actually make it necessary? Yes.
Is it rice when you just want to throw it on there without taking the above two points into consideration? Absolutely. But then again...you are the guy that thought that BC coils were better than KW Varient 3's or Tarmac 2's.

Do want you want...it is your car and your decision...but I really feel like I am just responding in another one of your question threads that will not amount to actually buying anything anyway...waste of time...

(oh yeah...don't forget that the fiberglass is not going to come painted and you can't just drop it off at a paint shop. It has to be blended and color matched with the rest of the car which means the whole front of your car will need to be repainted. That, of course, is only if you really want it to match. If you are going for rice, you will be fine with it not matching.)

Not to mention the FG version will shake rattle and bounce like crazy. I remember my old CF hood.....I did not like driving 80 mph down the freeway and seeing the hood flexing like it was.

Hey rob I never said BCs are better than KWs... KWs are godly.. Period. I did say BCs are better than what everyone seems to make of them.

A lot of fiberglass hoods don't play nice with factory mounts either. Fitment can leave a lot to be desired too due to mold tolerances. A friend of mine with a track prepped Mustang has his held down in 5 spots (one being front center of the hood) to keep his still.

My friend made the huge mistake of never getting hood pins or clamps to keep the CF hood secured on his Spec-V. One day on the highway, it flew up into his windshield. Bent the back corners of the hood and had to get his windshield replaced. Pretty scary.
