Gauge Installation...

    I purchased a set of Sun-Pro gauges and an A-Pillar pod off of ebay. Got everything for $50. More or less bought it just for the pod though, but I want to go ahead and install the gauges until I can afford a better set. I was wondering if anyone out here would be willing to help me install, b/c I've never done anything like this. I've ready the instructions online, but just want to be safe. The gauges are a Boost Gauge, Oil PSI gauge, and a volt meter gauge.

    ANYONE???

    the proper way (and only way to get the proper oil pressure anyways) to install the Oil Pressure gauge is to tap (drill) into the oil galley in the engine block, so you're probably gonna want someone professional to do that one. i can tell you from experience the oil filter sandwich adapter doesn't give an accurate reading and will eventually stop working, or cause leaks. boost should be super easy even for a beginner, especially if you have the factory boost gauge already. and same for the volt meter.

    Is there not some kind of adapter or way you can put it into the oil pressure switch under the alternator?

    maybe, haven't heard of that? but that is the oil galley, where the sending unit has to be tapped in

    That's how mine is set up. It's a bit of a tight squeeze but as I understand it, it gives the most accurate reading on oil pressure. Just need to get a T joint that you can thread your sender in to.

    under the intercooler on the passenger side is a plug. there's an OEM part with BSPT drilled threads in it. screw it in and set up your sender there

    WTF?^^

    Go to the stealership, tell the parts guy you need the OEM oil pressure sending unit plug that threads into the block. Take this and thread in at the location nicad mention in his post. You can order a British Standard Thread Pitch (BSTP) adapter to AN for remote location or NPT and fight like hell to get it to fit with the POS sending unit.

    I would feel a lot better if I had someone helping me. I'm out of fundage and can't afford to pay someone after putting a new engine in.

    BSPT. british standard pipe thread.

    most senders will be NPT unless you get some $$ JDM unit.

    take intercooler off. remove plug. it's the size of a half dollar. install OEM thread with BSPT fitting. thread sending unit into here in any manner you see fit. use teflon tape. run wire. done.

    as opposed to giving you the phone number for the local dealership that stocks the galley plug?

    He also stated in the OP that he had already read the instructions online and was just looking for someone to help him install.

    Point Blank....If someone can help me install them, that would be great...lets just pretend none of that other stuff was said. If no one wants to help, they don't have to. If you do, speak up, or forever hold your peace.

    I've read that when you install the boost gauge line, you can put it in any of the vacuum lines. Which one do you guys recommend?

    Tap into the line that connects to your bypass valve.

    bypass valve. it's on the front driver's side of the intercooler

    Well, right now it doesn't matter b/c my mechanic said he needs a cam lock tool to finish my car. He doesn't have the right now, no subaru dealer is going to lend or outright sell me one, and I can't get a hold of anyone at Subaru HQ to get info on getting one. This is all that is holding me back and I can't find one.

    I installed my gauges today. I only hooked up the illumination of the oil psi gauge, just b/c I don't have the extra money to do the sending unit, line, etc....

    I started off by hooking up a ground bar kit on the A-Pillar

    Then ran the wires as such...

    And tapped into the fuse box as such...

    The boost line is installed, but I won't hook it up until all is said and done and the engine is back in.
