Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 6_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/536.26 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/6.0 Mobile/10B143 Safari/8536.25) This looks great. I love ls1 rx7s. I'm sure it will be a lot of fun to drive.
Yea I was seriously impressed with the swap, hinson makes some nice pieces for the swap its nothing special, the interior is in great shape but I needs a few things
thanks for the comments guys as of now im just working on getting the a/c system in and upgrading the radiator and a few small things, I won't be doing any engine work until I get back in atlanta next year. I've heard a lot of good things about vengeance racing out in cummings, if anyone has experience with them i'd love to hear about it or any other shops in the metro area that are great with ls1's looking at a good head/cam combo with an upgraded IM
plenty of room, the engine sits so far back i have almost a foot of clearance from the frame to the front of the engine
Be careful of LS1 head/cam work without a little bottom end work. Or dont go so aggressive on the tune. I have a buddy with a 02 camaro with an LS1 with LS6 heads and a mildly aggressive tune. Hes got about 410 rwhp, and he threw out a rod bearing in the bottom end...was a sad day...super fun motors. Never ridden in a Rx7 with one though =/
interesting, first i've heard from someone that the stock bottem end goes out at that low. might've been something else but we'll see, i'm contemplating on whether i should build it n/a or scrap it and go turbo
The bottom end didn't go out because of the head/cam package it was the tune and detonation that likely killed it. You said yourself it was mildly aggressive.
Oh muh gawd that car is rueeeeeeeened! Da v8 is stone age and ways five mullion pounds and mess up car balance! It now be so heavy and undursteer. You disgrace import cuminity! Torkless low end wuz teh fast0r! I'm kidding, of course. A swapped RX-7 is one of my dream cars. I just switched to the V8 camp myself, as I bought an SRT-8 Magnum last Saturday. You get the best of both worlds- Light weight, great handling, and V8 grunt. My car is just... massive. It will take some time to get use to that. I'd really like to get out and see your car in person some time. I've seen pics, but never a V8 third gen swap in person.
Sarcasm, sir. Sarcasm. I've had this argument numerous times on teh internetz. Pound for pound, you can't beat a small block; I agree completely.
the ls1/t56 combo weighs less than 50lbs more than a miata motor / tranny. These all aluminum beasts are awesome for swaps. They've also gone up almost $2k in value over the last two years. If you can find a running 98-02 f-body car for less than $5k, you can easily turn a profit
There is a nice LSx/FD swap down in PTC if you want to see it. Go to Allspeed behind the WH off Hwy74 and ask for Steven. Might even strap the Mag on the dyno while there and see what kind of numbers you put down.
ah, guess i misread your post - as of now im not tuned...i'd love to get one though... hopefully it could give me a few mpg's - I've spent $200 on fuel already this month LOL yea, from what I've read - the ls1 weighs 50 lbs more than the 13b but the ls1 sits so far back in the bay that the weight is either over the wheels or behind them, and if you relocate the battery to behind the seats it evens it out a little bit... but yes i've heard so many people hate on this car I'm currently in Orlando for school at UTI and never hear the end of it - From boths sides, rotary lovers and domestic guys
the one sure thing i've learned since being in Orlando; Puerto Ricans love their rotaries, why? because backwards logic thats why Lol saw that video, that guy is a lunatic, but a brilliant lunatic at that
