I am planning on upgrading the factory exhaust system. Do I need to use only SPT catback to maintain the factory warranty? Anyone has similar experience before?
It will only 'void' the warranty if the aftermarket part causes the failure. Otherwise, they can't void the warranty.
The exhaust on our cars is really nothing but a noise maker honestly. You'll be fine. I have only seen/heard of issues with warranty with a downpipe switch...but as Matt said...they have to prove that is what caused the issue. Also, there is no such thing as a warranty being voided. The dealership can deny a claim but you still have your warranty. Even with my fully built car, if a window motor goes bad it can be replaced under warranty if it is deemed to be a manufacturers defect or the responsibility of Subaru for the failure.
If you're that concerned, just save your factory one and swap it back if you have issues that bring you back to the dealership.
Humm, I am ok with the power so no powertrain mods considered for now. Endlink + Sway bar + exhaust is all I have planned for now.
Thanks for explaining. I will probably leave the factory down pipe for this stage of mod. So just sway bar/end link/bushing swap, plus exhaust upgrade. Next time I'll show up in the meet up and see how you guys did the mods
Like Matt said, unless the aftermarket part installed has any relations to the failure of a covered repair, they cannot say anything about the parts you installed. The dealer though has the right to refuse the repair work as repairs of any kind are at their own discretion Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act I am a Claims Supervisor for a warranty administration company if you need anything else answered.
