So im working on my LGT replacing the center diff. I have all the bolts out of the transmission extension. However, whoever was in there last must have bolted everything down before letting the liquid gasket cure. I cant even get a razor in the seam to try and pry the halfs apart. There does not seems to be a paper gasket, just a white liquid gasket substance used.

Any ideas? Could i torch the gasket? Jack on the extension? Thanks.

dead blow hammer and don't hit around the tail shaft snout. kerosene and scotch bright pad will clean all the old gasket off.

the orange harbor freight hammer would be perfect. pretty good chance of it breaking before the case.

Is jacking on the extension some to help apply some pressure a good or bad idea?

have mine sitting on a stand, guess yours is in the car?

take the trans mount off, give a couple of love taps on the mounting face and see if it breaks free

Yep in the car, trans mount and center brace was one of the first things out.

    Ill give that a shot.

use a soft face hammer, the last thing you want to do is F up the mating surface or bolt hole. keep in mind there are dowel pins to align the cases, I've seen quite a few of those busted by getting overzealous. buy a tube of Fujibond for the install.

Didn't consider the dowels pins. Good shit.

How hard are these love taps? Im swing about as hard as i can being underneath the car and all. Using a somewhat small poly/rubber ended hammer and also a normal hammer with the grip of another tool as a pad. I can only access maybe 30% of the trans extension to hit it.
    No budge.

You bastard! Haha, yeah paid ~500 for a new one. If you still want to sell it, how much, how many miles, and do you know the history on it?

Its in my old brighton 5 speed. high mileage but its a granny car so shouldn't have any problems. I was thinking $50.

    Is it 01+?

So went back out after having a beer. Came back to a nice surprise of a slightly wet pussy...ahem...seam. Seemed i had gotten her just excited enough to moisten things from a slightly broken seal. Went back in with added vigor knowing i was getting SOME result and that my results should only amplify with time. It was still a PITA to get off, and i may have to top off my trans fluid every ~2k miles, but ehh ill take it.
