Looking to replace my pads this month and would like some recommendations. Not looking to spend too much money though, but then again nothing cheap. I dont track the car, just DD most of the time. Currently running Duralast Gold and will never buy them for my STi again. Any links to some websites with good deals would help. Thanks guys
If you just want a DD pad, the Wearever Ceramic pads arent bad and they dont dust. Plus they are dirt cheap and even cheaper if you find an online coupon and pickup in store. If you want a more aggressive pad, the street carbotechs or Hawk HPS pads.
The HPS and stoptech make for good DD, street pads. Also unlike the HP+ on my car, they actually stop the car when its 20 degrees out and they are not up to temp.
I ran yellow ones and they were silent. I'm back to reds right now for street and they are extra silent...
I liked the OEM pads, but they were loud and very dusty. Hawk HPS was a downgrade and I thought I was going to die on the first mtn run after installing them, but they were quiet and not much dust. I gave them away to bixs. Hawk HP+ are not quite as noisy as the stock pads, but they stop just as well imo. They are loud and they do dust a lot. I have not had an issue with needing to warm them up in cold weather, but I don't drive it much when it is really cold out and it stays in the garage. I like to stop more than I care about the dust. I've found that a good coat of wax on the wheels once a year or so makes it really easy to wash the dust off with minimal elbow grease. GL!
You gave the pads away to bixs after you thought you would die because of them? Some friend you are. Were these the pads on his car when the wreck happened?
lol...maybe. I had Hawk Blues for the dragon, but they sounded like a freight train in traffic and I almost died on 400 when traffic was coming to an abrupt halt when they were cold (left them on a day or two to de-bed). Was going to use HPS for 100% NON performance driving. I'm liking the EBC so far, had great successes. I think they might have changed their formula recently.
I see what you're getting at :squint: I kept them until somebody was specifically looking for DD pads. David knew what I thought about them when he picked them up. Then again I don't think I've heard from David since. Maybe he does think I was tying to kill him. It doesn't matter what kind of pads you're using when you are hydroplaning :eek3: I've used HPS on other cars and was quite happy with them.
I really like Wagner Thermoquiet Ceramic brake pads on my DD. They are quiet, affordable, produce little dust. Weavers are good too but check out www.rockauto.com to compare the prices.
I had HPS on my civic hatch that saw weekend track duty. They did well on that platform. I thought they were suitable for DD duties as well. My OEM pads on the STi make noise, a ton of dust, and don't seem to bite exceptionally well. I might go over to HPS soon.
So I am giving Duralast Gold C-Max Ceramic a try on my wife's car. Picked them up from Autozone for 140 for front and back.wait before you knock the price, they come with a lifetime warranty. My buddy Gary said, who works there, once the brake pads wear out just bring them in and they will be covered by warranty for replacement. If you think I'm joking go to Autozone and ask them. Good deal, put them on last night, I'll let ya know how they feel etc.
