well like the title says, im either about to upgrade to PAR's 650 gear set or do a complete 6spd swap over haul.

i do NOT race/ nor track/ nor autox or drag strip my car. i DO go to "tail of the dragon" about twice a year! i am NOT worried about the whine sound that straight cuts make. i am just tired of doing transmission jobs!!!:|
-THIS is an 2005 wrx hybrid 2.0/2.5 built! and it my DAILY driver, so i want it to last, tired of trans prblms.

    reasons why:
-will hold the power i have now and will have more (430whp&410wtq as of rt now, but will turn up the boost in spring with more fuel&1000cc's)
-wont break the PAR's (straight cut 1-4th synchromesh engagement)
-wont worry about the PAR's breaking
-if i buy the PAR's then i will need to buy the brembo break adapters for the rear to be installed.
-if i buy the PAR's then i would need to buy the 5x100>5x114 wheel adapters/spacers (from Project KICS 11-12mm.. i chose project kics bc has to be less than 15mm), but im worried about this now, bc i was told the hubs&spindles and wheel bearing and etc arent strong enough to hold/support my 18x10.5" with the 5x100 stuff.

-is possible i could buy 04 sti hubs and spindles and etc so they will be stronger to support my wheels and driving activity.

-if i go with 6spd then im worried about it breaking, ive seen guys with less power than me break the 6spd,, but then again ive seen guys with 540-7xx whp not break the 6spds.
-but the 6spd stuff will be stronger (r180, spindles, hubs, axles, driveshaft etc etc that would be swapped)

-if i go 6spd, do i need/want the DCCD controller?

ALL INFORMATION //opinions are appreciated:wiggle::) im sure i am forgetting something.

Dragon driving? 6spd. Short gears ftw, oem reliability ftw, 6spd shifting and synchros ftw...6spd.

Ive seen far to many "built 1000hp straight cut gears/dog engagement/blah blah" fail due to poor design and/or installation. Maybe the company you have in mind has it figured out, and maybe im thinking of dogbox's of old era subaru builds....but the oem STI 6 spd is just all kinds of tits. Try and find an 05 STI trans with the manual trans pump if you can.

while I have a dogbox 5-spd, it's still the weak link in the driveline. Money would better spent on a proper 6-spd swap.

I would bet that your car would be for sale within a year of driving with a straight cut gear set.

PAR's are no better than PPG's. While many hold a ton of power, many also bust at 400hp.

    6 sp FTW.

Go with the 6-Speed. I was in your dilemma a few months ago after breaking 3rd gear.

For the money you will spend on gears for the 5-spd, you could have All-Pro swap over everything from a donor car...including Brembos and OEM BBS Wheels. Then not only will you have a stronger tranny but your whole drivetrain will be much beefier, and you could ditch those shitty WRX wheel bearings. DCCD and LSDs are a nice bonus too.

DCCD is over rated. Other than that get the 6 speed.

yea ALLPRO told me about the dccd and the wheel bearings and etc hubs/spinldes being stronger and better...

i could get the PAR gearset and keep in 1st or 2nd bc of longer gears. so i would be in boost and not at the top of 2nd coming into a curve. so i should be middle power band and etc in the dragon.

If you want a longer gearset I've got a Legacy Spec B 6 speed Trans, I have the full swap.

Not to hi jack your thread but bringing this up out of curiosity. I know having the sti 6 spd is what everyone does and you have to change a lot out. granted the 6 spd is an awesome transmission. I got curious as I recently put another 5 spd in mine to get my car back on the road. Anyone know if you have to change everything still for a split case 6 spd? I'm mainly looking to get a 6spd and some mpg back haha. with just a 2.5I no turbo or anything here

Never heard of a split case 6 speed and as far as I know they don't exist.

Interesting. I wouldn't run anything with a split case if I wanted it to hold up.

the split case 6 speeds are coming in the new wrx and were in the 2010 LGT's they hold up.. just not like an STI trans. I'm pushing like 150hp I think a split case 6 speed would do me just fine.

that and the 6 spds in the brz are split case

Who is going to install the gear set if you go that route?

Yeah thats a good question. You don't want to try it yourself

As WJM would say... the split case is a 5speed gearbox where they crammed a 6th gear in there..

    Why bother....

If its really a 5 speed box that they crammed another gear in Ill pass for sure. Just means its even weaker than before.
