I've got an 04 6 speed in an 02 WRX. Clutch and drivetrain are also out of an 04 STi. When I press the clutch it does not go to the floor, it almost feels like I am pressing the brake. It stops about half way, and I don't feel it engage. Anyone familiar with this issue?

    What slave cylinder?

Same setup on my car just a 2.5 block

I am not sure if the rod length is different between the slave cylinders

Are you sure the throwout bearing is properly seated in the pressure plate?

When I reinstall mine I align the throwout bearing and fork on the input shaft, bolt the engine to the tranny, then have to use a screw driver to pry the fork far enough forward to engage the pressure plate... then I can insert the pivot shaft.

I believe part numbers for slave cylinders are the same between the years.

Probably not. Obviously this is not my area of expertise. My friend (who is a mechanic) put the bearing and fork in the trans before installation. He said it would hook into the pressure plate the first time you press the pedal.

if the slave and fork look right then the throw out bearing/fork is the issue

Lol it all looks wrong to me, it's not an engine. But I will check to see if its all lined up properly. We did end up bending the rod of the slave cylinder from trying to force the pedal down.

I can't think of why any of that would happen. Its a pull type clutch, so if the TO bearing wasn't engaged you'd have no resistance and the pedal would go to the floor. If it was engaged the only reason it'd feel like a brake pedal is if the fork wasn't pivoting.

are/were you watching under the hood to see if it was actuating?

I believe it was pivoting some, it wasn't long before we bent it, so didn't have much time to see what was going on.

only thing that makes sense if the slave is bolted on and the rod is in the divot on the clutch fork

Yes, the new slave worked. It was a different design, but the dimensions seemed to be the same, so I'm not sure what the problem was.
