By high end I'm talking under 1500....

I like the Para Black Ops but don't know how reliable they are.

Kimber's but understand they have issues as of late with their 1911's.

I'm not dead set on a 1911 but am leaning that way.

    what say you and why?

I had a HK 45 Tactical for about a month. Nice gun but couldnt justify keeping it when I had other 45's that I liked more.

Not a huge fan of 1911's but if I was to go buy one, it would be the springfield TRP. I have shot one before and the trigger is super nice on it.

My personal favorite 45 is the FN FNX45 tactical. It isnt a super high end gun like the TRP, Kimber, or Dan Wesson but it is a great shooting gun that accepts my rmr and suppressor. Plus the FDE make me look tacticool.

Also shot various Sig's that were nice as well....but I dont consider those super high end.

HK MK23? If you run out of bullets, you could just throw it at whatever you are defending yourself from and kill it.

I love 1911's but I wouldn't love owning one. A lot of maintenance that I just don't care to do.

I have an IWI Israeli made .45 Desert Eagle and a Ruger P90 ACP. I have both for about 4+ years and no problems. Both are now discontinued but you can find them for good prices.

Agree with the others that said HK. I have the full size and compact .45 and they are stellar guns. Never had a single issue with either. Not to mention, there is a reason US special forces carry them:clap:

Sucks if you are planning on buying a HK. They just had a $200 rebate on all of their pistols with the exception of the VP9.

thanks for the input guys. I am looking into HK's and FN as well as some various 1911's. I totally forgot about the FNX 45, I loved shooting my buddies at the last range outing.

That 1911 thread is very thorough and I now know what a super high end firearm really is. I hope to have something from the bottom of that page one day!

1000 rounds through my 1911 - cleaned it twice. not even a stove pipe. I think this falls under anecdotes (this post included) and 'i read it on the internet'

I think it depends on the make and quality of said gun though. One of my friends has to constantly clean his or else it'll misfeed. That however may be the fault of the ammo being used.

Yeah, the range I go to had a high end Kimber they were renting out. They were instructed not to clean it and only put oil on it while they had it. Never missed a beat over the thousands of rounds that went through it until Kimber took it back.

ammo and mags, just like any firearm. my 1911 was only $650 new

99.9% of gun owners dont shoot enough for reliability and maintenance on a decent running 1911 to ever be an issue.

Whats the purpose of the gun being purchased? If "defense" is included in any of the reasons, common sense says go for a double stack vs a single stack unless you dont like the feel of a double stack frame. Even then you should consider getting over it.

That being said, nothing like a good 1911 trigger. My Sig TacOps offered impressive value and performance, but the rest mentioned are very nice contenders.

I was wondering when you were going to chime in. the use will be home defense but wanted something that would get attention at the range. Keep in mind though I do have several glock's laying around the house.
Justin which 1911 do you have?

I have a Dan Wesson Heritage that I like a lot. Add a 10 round Wilson Combat mag for a nice combo. I overpaid for mine ($1350).. I think you can pick one up for $1200 or so now. Springfield TRP and Colt Combat Elite were the other guns I was seriously considering. Held a Dan Wesson at the gun shop and I was sold though.
