Damn man.... This gas stuff has to get under some type of control.

I remember when my folks first moved out to GA. I paid like 80 cents a gallon.. As soon as all the middle east stuff started gas jumped like a buck... Oh well price we pay to have fun cars :)

I agree totally... It has gotten way out of control. Gas is 2.79 here in Kennesaw and that is Chevron too. It is supposedably going to be up to 3.00 soon.... I know it is really high back home in Bethesda.MD. Hopefully it will go down soon....

It really goes in cycles... We are lucky to be in GA, because GA has some of the lowest gas prices in the nation....

That used to be the case.. heard on the radio this morning that for the first time (ever?) Georgia is now _above_ the national average gas price.

When I get StreetTuner the first thing I'm doing is building an 87 octane economy map.

you might want to look into getting a turbo diesel car, they get something silly like 45mpg, and they aren't exactly slow.

My last car was the Golf TDI (turbo diesel). Not stock of course. More boost, bigger injectors, etc. The worst mpg ever was towing 1k+ lbs @ 85 mph from florida, 28 mpg. Normally it was 40-46 mpg.

I don't see why not. Of course, you would give up power, but...

Retard timing, lower boost. Could probably take the Cobb economy map and futz with the timing until you don't detonate at the ~7psi on 87 octane.

ooorrrr... we could all just drive a little more reasonably and not worry about maps. (unless of course you commute more than 30mi one way, then i could understand tweaking EM for crap gas) ;)

    CNN's take

I heard some analyst talking on CNN about how the gas prices shot up from 2.30 to 2.80 because 2 of the nation's oil refineries, 1 in illinois, 1 in texas recently went out of operation like 2 months ago. Plus the nation hasn't built a new one since around 1986. Apparently we have an ass ton of crude oil but no where to make gas & diesel out of it. EPA regulations and dealing with neighboorhood communties to find land to put these things is apparently very difficult. So here's the deal, who's willing to sacrifice their backyard to save the good ol USA a chunk of change and some grief? :p

WTF, why would you want a crappy tune to save $.20/gal !?

    $3*14.0=$42
    $2.80*14.0=$39.2

$2.80 in savings, or 6%. It's been the same 20 cents more for premium for years...
