Well since I'm still playing the waiting game I decided to wrap my header today. It came out pretty good.
wrap the center section with this, http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/eppages/zircotec3.php it will help protect the coolant lines, oil cooler and oil pan from all of the radiant heat coming off the exhaust. Used this stuff on the big diesel gen sets when in confined spaces and makes a world of difference.
Stock headgaskets? did they clay the valves? Just wondering with the block needing to be decked after the insert is pressed in and the high lift cams.
Looks good Ryan. Reminds me of mine Yes I believe he's getting doug to tune it. SO glad my little VW passat was able to help you out brother! God bless that little car hahaha.
LOL I love this guy. You miss nothing Justin!!! Of course given your track record with these motors / cars, I'm not surprised heh. The BC S2's I don't think have the lift of my GSC S2's but then again my deck wasn't warped and didn't get ground at all so... Super valid point though. Any other machine shop I would be all over this but with Andrew / David i'm pretty confident they know to check those clearances.
Well its all done and back driving! Just gotta break it in and tune it. I ended up replacing the clutch disc too, just since I had it out.
And don't expect any! Andrew machining / assembly with putting it together yourself is the ticket bro. Mine has 7k, two oil changes (3 including break in oil) and doesn't even have piston slap with 20f cold start temps. Also, sure is a secsy engine stand you got there
OK got a little update. Finally took it for a tune. Didn't get final numbers on 93 as we ran out of gas on the dyno. So it only got tuned at 20psi on 93 and made 438awhp. Race gas (c16) target was 34psi but the wastegate spring was too small (1bar) to hold 34psi, it would only make 29psi. Numbers were 549.7awhp and 505.6awhp this was on a mustang dyno. For a comparison a full bolt on GTR that made 609awhp and 636awtq on topspeed's old dynojet only made 492awhp and 553awtq on this mustang dyno (same tune same everything). Here is a video on the dyno. http://youtu.be/Rvf98SNwmms?t=35s Will be switching to ID1300's soon and bumping wastegate spring up to 1.3 bar so it can hold 34psi. So I'll update with new numbers once that is all done. I love heartbreak dynos. *How much power does your car make? *Only made xxx hp? *Pssht wanna race? *Sure.....proceed to destroy wannabe number chaser
Everything still going good Ryan? Haven't heard from ya in a while. We still need to do a hit "in mexico" somewhere with both ours and see just how bad you pull on me haha.
Sorry work has been crazy with my new promotion. Now onto the Update. Switched to ID1300's a few weeks ago and up'ed my wastegate spring. Did a pump gas tune first and WOW the car is SO much better as far as drivability compared to the ID2000's, I should have made that change long ago! Car made 462.7 AWHP and 413.7 AWTQ on 93 octane on DBW's Mustang dyno. Went back for my third time tuning session yesterday for race gas. Ended up making 606 AWHP and 540.6 AWTQ on Q16 on DBW's Mustang dyno. Ending up maxing out the wastegate at 33psi. We tried 35psi but it wouldn't hold 35psi and would taper down to 33psi. The 33psi run was a rock solid 33psi and it made 606.1 then we backed that up with the the 35psi attempt that tapered to 33psi and it made 606.0. Over all I am very happy with the build! Goal was met and exceeded! The only video I got was of the last pull and I couldn't get the camera to start recording until mid way through the run. https://youtu.be/HGS4vePYEHs Red line is HP, Blue line is Torque, Purple line is Boost, and Black line is AFR Here is pump gas numbers. I couldn't find the graph. Here is the final tune that is in the car which is a rock solid 33psi as you can see on the chart. Here is our attempt at 35psi which tapered to 33psi.
That's the same thing I said on my 04 when I built it. I didn't make that mistake this time. Atleast your car has been extremely reliable for you! That's the important thing so you can atleast enjoy it. That's what I'm looking forward to now.
probably more like 650 on the dyno's we are used to, Doug's new one is a total heartbreaker. 100hp over the 04!!!! I'd say you win this time bro. Yeah mine is fully open deck no pins or anything, and having seen what you did to your last block in this 08 it ovaled RIGHT at those relief areas (where pins normally go) so i'm not going to go beyond where i'm at right now it runs absolutely perfect. My only complaint is the precision turbo with the ceramic ball bearing heats / cools at different rates (bearing VS bearing carrier) so it lets oil past sometimes and smokes like a chimney. Pisses me off when i'm at a light and I look like a hooptey.
