Replacing my clutch in the next couple of weeks. If my end goal right now is around 320 tq, do I need to go with a stage 1 or street clutch? And if so, which is a better option? The Act or the Exedy?
and all I've ever owned in my other vehicles was an ACT clutch..Never had an issue with them. also, I've never had Exedy or Clutchmasters... so I can't comment on them. I will say all the other cars I've owned that were manual were NA, not boosted. Joe
I have ALWAYS used ACT and never had a problem with them in the past 20 years. Exedy is a great stock replacement clutch but not great on high HP/Torque cars. I have had a bad experience with Clutchmaster so I would probably never go back to them. ALl it takes is one bad experience and you will swear not to ever go back. I tried a few other brands but always go back to ACT.
One was SPEC because the owner was my roommate back in College and the other was Clutchmaster before I started buying ACT.
Ive used Exedy and ACT pressure plates back to back on the same disc. ACT has a heavier pedal but engagement was smoother, less chatter, and in general a more pleasureable engagement. I have to disagree here, unless there are other reasons you are saying that. I have been running an ACT on my Legacy for ~35k miles now, its not perfect, but the daily driving experience with stop and go traffic...smooth engagement is a must and the ACT easily trumped the Exedy in this field.
I had an ACT pressure plate fail miserably on a track day at little tally a few years ago. It left a bad taste in my mouth ever since.
Like I said, all it takes is one bad experience with a clutch. When one fails, it isnt a 5 minute fix.
Yeah our Spec PP failed in the middle of our 2008 One Lap race, wont ever use spec again.(that clutch had less then 3k miles on it).
