I know there are a ton of weekend AutoXers out there, but does anyone Rally Cross ever? It seems like a lot of fun, but I know very little about it. Anyone have any experience/input? Will prepping my car for this cost an arm and a leg?

    Just curious...

I'm interested too, but to my knowledge there aren't any places in Georgia for this. I think we'll have to drive a bit to AL, GA, FL, or NC, or TN for rally cross fun.

In the future I may see about beefing up the Turbo Legacy for this.

I really want to try it, but want to try in a cheaper car :) I heard that it is really rough on the car.

I wouldn't mind taking my crx out there :)

I would love to go try some out but like baddriver said, they don't hold any rallyX here in Georgia.

Which has made my plan that whenever I move out (from the parent's) I want to buy a little house with a lot of land and rent some sort of machine/bulldozers/bobcat/or whichever machine is suitable for the job, that can turn my backyard from grassy to dirt. Then I'd call the SCCA of Georgia (or the Southeast) and tell them I'd like to let them use my land for RallyX.

Tarheels and Tenn. are the biggest chapters that I know of. Anders Green the person in charge of Rally Cheraw is a strong member of the Tarheels chapter.

you wouldn't even have to bulldoze to make it dirt. Rally X xan be done on an open grass field with cones, just as easily as on a open field of dirt. All that would be required is a lot large enough, and insurance to cover any possible injuries on the property (probably really expensive).

Well maybe we could champion working with a land owner that already hosts dirt or motorcross events?

I've been pondering that if someone who hosted motorcross also had land that was also suitable for rally cross that the owner(s) probably wouldn't be as hard of a sale regarding liability of land use.

Does anyone here know of any local motorcross facilities?

I would venture to guess that a motocross trail/track cant handle rally cars (or the owner will be unwilling to try it).

I think you are on to something here...I would be interested in some rally X, like auto X on dirt. Not too sure about jumping my car, although fun, very expensive to fix the problems that WILL happen.

Yeah I am not about to drive MY subie over a jump. Love to try it in someone else's though...

I would guess you would need a completely different suspention/wheel setup at the minimum, right?

rally cross has absolutely nothing to do with jumping your car...just like an autoX in a grass/dirt field

I heard chattanooga is the best one, and it's really close to here. However, i wouldn't drive a car there expecting it to make it back in one piece, a trailer is a must.

If that is the case, I won't be trying rally cross ever.

    I would have to buy a truck, a trailer,AND have a rally car:wtc:

I'd like to see or make something happen happen, and I enjoy driving on dirt too.

That was a major plus of living in the boonies. I picked up the clunker legacy, and seam welding, caging and skid plates are in the back of my mind with possibly a Tacoma with a flatbed trailer with a wench.

If people really have the bug to jump and whatnot there is an option of looking into the older Subaru's as cars for the cause. Legacy turbo's are going for under $2K in fairly good shape, and the NA cars are cheaper unless you want something like a GC8. There were a couple of legacy turbos for sale on the atlanta craigslist, but it may involve going out of state. I mention this because who wants to f*%k up their baby.

You guys are crazy.... if you think that it's bad that autox wears out your tires fast you shouldn't do rallyx. Not that I don't want to try it, just not in any car that is my DD! If you guys are really interested in starting one you shouldn't wait around for Atlanta Region SCCA to start a program; call up the region office and ask how you can help start one!
