Well after swapping out piston #2, #4 decided to take a dump. I debated swapping it while I had everything apart but figured since it compression tested good I should leave it alone.

Looks like I'll be pulling the motor again. Don't know which route I am giong yet. Stock 2.5, built 2.5, forged drop ins on current block or just drop in the other pistons I have.

If I decide on a new block I am going to run this one into the ground at the track this Friday. Right now even with the low compression the car is way faster than it has ever been. The 20g is a kick-ass turbo.

Hmmm now I am hesitating on going the 2.5 swap route. Why are you constantly blowing pistons?

Because I push the car very hard. #2 happened after 25k miles of abuse and #4 shortly there after. #4 was my own fault for pushing my car when it wasn't fully tuned. It also didn't help that I threw a bigger turbo on an already injured block.

The good news is that I am only out about 250 for parts that can't be reused on the next swap so it was worth a try (not 2 though) to fix it cheap.

okay got ya. So you are saying I should be just fine if I throw on a 'NEW' 2.5 block and take it easy and do directions per SS until I finally get it tuned in. Then crank up the fun!

I would think that forged pistons should be on your list since you run the car so hard. Now you just have to choose which ones to get.

No worries here. I am getting real good at pulling the motor :p

This time I am going with a built block with forged pistons coated bearings and a balanced rotating assembly. Hopefully this will last long enough so that I can replenish the transmission fund.

No they don't. Its all in the build. The problem is when they just drop in pistons to a new block assuming they'll fit. The block should always be bored to match the pistons. I am going to get my block rebuilt by a professional for 1400.

    Coolrex,

Glad you got the manuals. When are you starting on your project?

Eh when I get the funds or when my motor goes which won't be for a while I hope. I like to do ALL my homework and research before starting something. I have always done this and came into working on the car like I have done it 100 times. Saves me a lot of headaches, time, and frustration. Sometimes I wish others would do the same instead of fubaring something up and then whine and complain about how crappy their car is. I would like to do it around Fall of next year. I am getting married next April so I'll be strapped for cash until after then. Now if the motor or tranny goes before then that's a different story but it's still running strong.

Yep better to ask questions and pick others minds for a while instead of totally screwing something up and having to do it all over again.

So Liquid what headgaskets do you use when using bone stock WRX heads? I am gonna stick stock WRX valvetrain and all as I just can't get that much $$$. All I want is 400/400 all day every day. Some say STi headgasket some say 2.5RS HG some say Cometic. Which ones?

Anyone know? There's too much bs on Nasioc.

Axis Racing has the cometic headgasket you need in stock. I cant remember the thickness, but I know he keeps them.
