While I have a EJ257 longblock out waiting to install in my car, the question is should I upgrade cams while this engine is out?

I'm going with the Hydra for tuning to utilize AVCS. Most cams lose AVCS. I'm going with the HTA35R for turbo. The car will be a daily driver with lots of power on tap ;)

So is it better to stick with stock cams or should I upgrade? If so which ones and why?

I'm concerned I'll lose tons of driveability and low end with cams though.

450-500hp? I want to keep the internals stock for now though.

then stock cams since your power goal is not exceeding 600 and you want to keep the 'stock internals'...;)

I'd say do them while the motor is out. Then again you said you werent going to be tracking the new setup so topend gains arent your first priority./

I would go with a DPR stage 1 or 2 cam, you won't lose any real power down low but you will pick up lots of power up top and in the midrange.

    Cams are overrated.

Unless you want to make real power I would stay away from upgrading them.
