I currently have a set of RCE yellow springs on my stock STi struts.

Lately I have been driving some long trips and the firm ride is tiring. I am thinking that coilovers might be my next mod so that I can soften things up when I am just crusing and then dial in the settings when I want to push it.

Does anyone have an 04 STi with coilovers that I could test drive to feel the benefits of the upgrade?

    Thanks!

Based on my experiences with coilovers, I don't think you want to consider the move to them for comfort. I agree, the valving on the stock struts is not designed for cross-country trips but I would consider focusing more on improving the comfort of your seat (lumbar support) or something similar.

Would think D-Spec's or AGX's would be a better solution than coil-overs

    OK -

That's what I am looking for in a car community!

Who has the Dspecs, Konis or AGX's?

My seat is comfortable enough for me. It is the head bobble - box car effect I get on that section of 75 north before hwy 5 and on some sections of concrete roads where each slab of concrete is at a different height.

My travel schedule is very heavy these next few weeks but am going to try to go to some Solo events soon. Maybe I can meet up with someone there?

FYI there is only one ARSCCA event in August before we take a month long break before solo nationals....

Thanks Meredith - I'll try to get to it.

Maybe try a Novice run or two?

The KW Variant series coilovers ride much better than stock.

I don't want to jack up OP's thread but I wanted to start a new thread and figured out that his thread is kind of "related" at what I wanted to ask. Bare with me, please!
Does anybody ride on Tein super racing coilovers?
    Thanks.

^ I'd vote for the ohlins... I had them on my 05 Sti and they rode much better (especially over highways) than the stock shocks.

Was going to suggest this and/or the RCE spec KWs that they sell.

I have RCE Tarmac1's on my LGT. They are revalved KWv2's. They ride great, even on a more stiff setting.

They ride so well that a Subaru tech didnt realize they were on the car until after he test drove it and then put it up on the lift.

+1 on the ohlins. They were the only mod that we had on our STi that actually made it more comfortable than stock. The later KW V3 coilovers were not nearly as comfortable.

What about those BC coilovers that the folks at one of the local shops told me about... they said that they could be quite comfortable for the mostpart with a lot of adjustment to dial in for any possible track events... I think they were like a grand or so...

I have an 05 with stock struts and RCE Yellows too...

The BCs are the best of the $1000 dollar coilovers, they are nowhere near as good as the KWs

Factory struts on those RCE springs aren't letting you fully experience the potential of those springs.I've used Koni yellows on past cars and was impressed with the performance for the money. They will give you the adjust-ability you are looking for without forking out for coilovers you might not want/need. Bilstein has made consistently good struts for years as well. Although I haven't seen them used much in the Subaru community. See if you can grab a ride with somebody running the Koni yellow struts.

If you're willing to spend more than look at some of the other suggestions.

RCE tarmac 2's here. I'm pretty happy with the ride. Might be stiffer then what you are looking for.

I think believe RCE yellow springs are over hyped crap. Why? Because I owned a set, myles is excellent at marketing which even pre-released a bronze version of the "yellows" which was sold out instantly. RCE conveyed the idea of these "awesome" springs will transform the car into behaving with 3 way adjustable coilovers. The end result is a huge bandwagon which I blindly hopped on, was getting nasty coilbind yet claims were these springs were track and road tested... right. Garbage is garbage no matter color you paint it.

If you only want springs, look into Swift. Quality, minimal drop to secure proper amount of already limited suspension travel. And no these will not coilbind, at all.

For the record I have no experience with the RCE yellow springs. My comments were made under the assumption these were good springs.
