my 95 wagon (ej18) has a problem starting after its sat for a while (over night/many hours during the day without being driven). check engine light is on. i pulled the codes, one was 13 (engine coolant temp sen.) 21 (cam position sensor) i replaced the cam sensor with 2 different ones, one new one and one used one from the junkyard still the same problem. so after doing that i replaced the crankshaft position sensor since the manual said they work together, still same problem.

what happens when I first try to start it is that it spins over fine, just wont fire. after several minutes of this it will start to sputter and run one just one or 2 cylinders doesnt respond to throttle, idles very low, cuts off. I go through this a few more times each time it gets closer to idling correctly until finally it revs up and comes to life. does anyone have any idea or had a similar problem and what i should try next? before i pay the dealership an arm and leg to fix my cheap daily beater i'd like to keep trying. thanks for any help :bigthumb:

not sure but I think the coolant temp sensor will make it run like crap until it warms up

Well you are throwing those cam and crank sensors.....you sure that the car didn't skip teeth and is now out of timing?

out of timing is possible i suppose. but it runs fine once warmed up. i replaced the coolant temp sensor last weekend and nothing changed. i drove it yesterday for the first time since last saturday and as usual took forever for it to start, idles like crap for a while dies a few times then eventually jumps up and idles as it should. i haven't had too much time to fool with it because i've been so busy on the s14 project i'm finishing up but i have more time now. guess i need to take it somewhere and have someone else look at it.
