So I inadvertantly drove Deals Gap Friday night, twice. Me and some friends went camping for the weekend and we didn't leave until late. Well we ended up getting lost around 1am and were driving down this insanely curvy mountain road (which was totally deserted). So get to the other side of the road, and my friends that were leading the way realized that we needed to go back. So we turned around, and saw the sign for Deal's Gap. We did the whole thing again and then found our campsite.

I most say, it was a pretty crazy road (I'm sure night made it a little more so). And despite being exhasted it was a pretty damn fun. But it may actually be a little too curvy for my taste. You couldn't really get up that much speed :)

I'm not even sure where we were the first night. It was a campground that was closed for the season. We reached our planned destination the next day though, Cades Cove. Maybe it was due to MLK weekend and good weather, but it was a tad too populated for my taste.

By far the best place I've camped in the Smokies though is Cataloochie Valley.

Oh I like curves, don't get me wrong. Maybe just two really quick runs one right after another was just too much. Everyone in the car was feeling a little green around the gills if you get my drift. Also, I generally prefer nice long sweepers rather that hairpin after hairpin. That being said though, I wouldn't definitely like to do it again, preferably sometime when I don't have 3 people in my car and am loaded down with camping equipment at 1 in the morning :)

Actually you dont mind the drive check out Big Creek or Cosby for camping. They are on the TN / NC border and one of the higher sections of the park. It is kind of out of the way, but there is a road leading up to it that is super twisty. Unfortunately the last time I drove that road I was in my Jeep going over fallen down trees :)

Still nothing like hiking in a few miles to camp.... no one around :):wiggle:
