just want to know if any body has heard of this:

this past weekend i was at a party and i met some guy that claimed to be a professional tuner. we were talking about engine management and he stated that he likes to do an ecutek tune with a utec piggy back included. this confused me as a utec pretty much just fools the ecu. this guy claimed that he has tuned several 900 hp cars this way. my thinking on this matter is when you have an ecutek tune the car is tuned to its best ability possible, he stated then that he uses the utec to go in after the ecutek to be able to have a user programmable set up so that you can make more changes to the car thus making more power. this seems a little sketchy to me, and im not sure that all he said was possible or reasonable.
anybody have any knowladge about this sort of thing?

people have used both. the ecutek is a flash for the stock ecu and the utek is a piggyback so it can be done. i dont know really why someone would do it. but it can be done.

i was thinkin the same thing. i doubt hes talkin bout subies or he was lying.

i know of people who have done that... the main reasons i believe are
    1) ability to switch maps
    2) ability to user tune

but why would you need to switch maps if the ecutek tune already has the car at its best ability

well then ecutek is what you want....having an 02 you can have two maps....conservative and a "spirited" map......or as I was contemplating with drew a possible, Doug (TP) and a Scott (SOG) map.. :naughty: but seriously both turners are well respected, I feel privileged to even have the choice....they both ROCK

This is pretty common in high horspepower applications. Its usually this approach before hydra. Ecutek is used to healithy control boost beneath like 23 lbs using the stock ecu mapping, and then utec kicks in above that.

remember that the difference between the 2 maps is only boost... all other tables stay fixed

well, one can have a more aggressive boost curve than the other... can be worth more hp and torque at the expense of engine longevity
