cheap and easy... food that is.

We always called it sausage and potatoes: 4 regular potatoes 1" cubes or 8 reds halved, 2 onion the same, 1 pack of polish sausage sliced about 3", and some minced garlic. Pull out the steamer tray and in a stock pot put in enough wather so it does not touch the ingredents then put in the potatoes then about a teaspoon of minced garlic, next will be the sausage and then the onion. Make sure that everything is layered potato, garlic, sausage, onion. Turn up the heat and when the potatoes are cooked, it is done. My wife likes adding cabbage :hsnono: but she boils it in a different pot. This is a quick meal and is great leftover.

beef steak...basically chop some beef like top serloin and put it in a pot. then add some soy sauce w/ lemon juice, and some water to tame the taste down. last, add onions on it, and bam you have filipino beef steak! yummy. i usually eat this with some plain white rice.

I used to regulary make big mystery scramble like the one below for breakfast when I had to feed a big family:

I always eyeballed measurements and made way too much of this when I cooked..

maranade thinly sliced zucchini in balsalmic vinagar and garlic for a couple mins
    thaw out frozen tater tots
    chop some red onions
beat several eggs ( adding a touch of sweet rice wine if ya want)
    chop/press some fresh garlic

add small amount of extra virgin olive oil to skillet for frying
add tots, salt and pepper and mash the tots around a bit
    then add onions
brown the tots add zuccini and let the onions clear or caramelize
turn the heat down and then scramble in the eggs, mozerella or string-cheese and add garlic

Eat or inject directly into arteries.

    enjoy.

A personal favorite of mine is Goulash.....

super easy, not the traditional style but close enough for me:

    egg noodles (thicker the better)
    ground beef
    onion (prefer vidalia)
    green pepper
tomato sauce....your choice (I like to use a store brand then add some chopped vine-ripe tomatoes, fresh herbs or dried, and touch of red cooking wine)

Cook the sauce for as long as you can adding diced green peppers and half of the onion

When ready cook other half of the onion with meat (get the onion kinda clear first before adding beef) season however you like

Combine cooked pasta with beef and sauce....enjoy....really quick and easy

A quintessential New Orleans dessert, and a favorite among most locals.

Have a fire extinguisher close by!!

    Bananas Foster

    Feeds: 2-3 people
    Cook time: 3-5 minutes

Heat a skillet on the stove with med-high heat
    add 1 stick of butter
add 1/2 cup of brown sugar
add 2-3 sliced bananas, quartering them by slicing them lengthwise and then in half
mix, flip bananas so they brown on both sides

Do not pour the below ingredients from the bottle, use a measuring cup!

add 1/2 cup of Myers dark rum
add 1/4 cup banana liqueur (optional)
    Ignite the rum (flambés)
Let the flame die out by itself
    ________________________

Put two thin slices of pound cake in a bowl (optional)
Add two scoops of Vanilla ice cream in the bowl
Drape the above bananas and sauce over the ice cream

    Enjoy!

I made this on Sunday for my family and they loved it!

+1 for banana's foster, i always put a splash of grand marnier(or triple sec if you're strapped for cash) over the ice cream and then a thin drizzle of that hard shell chocolate syrup stuff for garnish.
